A teenager has been stabbed to death in London after he was seen being chased by another man.

Police were called to Tiverton Street in Southwark at around 9.30pm on Sunday.

The victim, 18, died in a south London hospital just before 11pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: ‘The victim was seen being chased by another male wearing a grey or blue hoody from Newington Gardens into Tiverton Street where he was attacked and shortly after found by police and London Air Ambulance.’

The victim has not been formally identified but his next of kin have been informed, police said.

The Met said in a statement: ‘Police were called by the London Ambulance Service on Sunday, May 5, at around 9.30pm to reports of a stabbing on Tiverton Street, SE1.

‘Officers attended along with London’s Air Ambulance and found a man, aged 18, suffering from stab injuries.

‘A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.’

The Homicide and Major Crime Command has launched a murder investigation under DCI Leonard but so far no arrests have been made.

Officers are reviewing local CCTV footage and making house to house calls as part of their probe, police said.

DCI Leonard added: ‘We need those who have information about the culprit(s) for this murder to get in touch with police immediately.

‘Were you there? Did you see anything? Your information could prove vital to solving this case and I would urge you to get in touch.’

The killing is understood to be the 45th murder in the capital this year and the 28th fatal stabbing.
