The long-awaited lesbian "Batwoman" has swung onto the scene with a new teaser trailer featuring the "gender fluid" actress Ruby Rose in the title role. Take a look:

The teaser doesn't offer much other than a few shots of Ruby Rose in the dark suit with her punkish hair blowing in the wind. Its release follows the CW picking up the series to make TV history with the first gay lead character in a live-action superhero series, reports Deadline.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the arrival of "Batwoman" breaks several barriers. Not only is the character an avowed lesbian, but she will also be played by the openly gay Ruby Rose, who played Stella Carlin on "Orange is the New Black." THR provided the show's official description:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

The character Batwoman first came onto the comic book scene in the '50s as a potential love interest for Batman, but eventually took a backseat in the '60s. The character did not become a lesbian until being reintroduced in DC's "New 52." A previous Hollywood Reporter poll showed that 85% (more than 2,000 people) of respondents wanted a "Batwoman" series.

Though Batwoman certainly has her own woke pedigree, SJWs were reportedly upset after Ruby Rose's casting, prompting her to leave social media after enough people complained she was "not gay enough" to play the title character.

"A #RecastBatwoman hashtag started circulating, with people also wondering why the role couldn't have gone to a lesser-known LGBTQ+ actress in need of an acting break," Glamour reported at the time. "Critics also accused Rose of not being a lesbian since she also refers to herself as gender-fluid."

In response, Rose said she could not believe people were actually insinuating she was not gay enough when her entire career has been people accusing her of being too gay. "Where on earth did 'Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman' come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read," the actress tweeted at the time. "I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with 'she’s too gay' how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change."

The CW network broke barriers on the SJW-themed "Supergirl" with the arrival of Nia Nal, the first transgender hero in television history, played by transgender actor Nicole Maines (a man presenting himself as a woman) and based on the DC Comics character Nura Nal. Sometimes called "Dream Girl," the character Nia Nal is a humanoid alien that also sees into the future.

"I haven’t really wrapped my head around it," Maines said told Variety. "It feels fitting to say with great power, comes great responsibility. I’m nervous because I want to do it right."

I used to think Ruby Rose was totally hot and a very beautiful woman. She was good on Orange is the New Black.

Then I read some of her lesbian rants and raves long before she signed to do this.

Totally militant bitch.

I agree. My daughter (16) and I have similar tastes and we like the 2nd season better for sure. We both make gagging noises when there are drippy teenage love scenes, so we fast-forward then.

Both my daughter and I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes of Riverdale. She gave up after 3 episodes - "God -- they think teenagers are like this? Hard Pass!" I stopped an episode or later when Betty tried to seduce someone...could be Reggie or whomever...just felt very icky.

Sabrina has actual acting...but Riverdale - I've seen our local High School productions, and they were far better. Also -- inside scuttlebut -- the cast & crew on Sabrina are all good buddies and Riverdale, well, not so much. Friends of friends work on it.

Riverdale and Sabrina are often filmed semi-nearby so it's fun for that factor.
