A SHOCKING number of Britons cannot point to Germany on a map and don’t know Gibraltar is British, according to results of a new study.
Researchers also found more than seven out of ten have never heard of Liechtenstein, two thirds are unaware of Brunei’s existence and more than three fifths did not recognise Mozambique. Eight in 10 Britons cannot point out where Germany is on a map and more than half of those questioned did not know Gibraltar was a British Overseas Territory. More than 2,200 British adults took part in the quiz for MoneySavingHeroes.co.uk as part of an ongoing study into how much Britons know about the world.

Respondents were given a list of various countries and were asked to select all the countries that they had never heard of.
Liechtenstein was the most unknown country in Europe with 71 per cent admitting they had never heard of it.
Montenegro, Georgia, Trinidad and Tobago, Macedonia, Moldova, Malta and Luxembourg all made the top 10 of unknown countries.
When respondents were asked to name all the UK territories, it was found 53 percent did not know Gibraltar was a part of British territory.

Only 21 percent were able to name more than three British overseas territories.
Finally, all respondents were asked to pick out various countries on a map.
A shocking 86 percent could not point out the location of India, 84 percent couldn’t find
Finland, 80 percent struggled to locate Germany, 79 percent were stumped by China and 78 percent failed to point out Argentina.

MoneySavingHeroes.co.uk spokesman George Charles said: “It has never been easier to travel the world or learn about it from the comfort of your own home thanks to technology advancements so it’s fascinating to know that so many Britons are still left scratching their heads when given a list of countries.
