TOPEKA, KS (AP) -- Topeka police is apologizing for a Father's Day tweet that encouraged people to turn in fathers who have outstanding warrants.

A screenshot of the tweet sent Sunday shows it says, in part, "Want to give him a Father's Day he'll never forget? Call TPD and we'll help your family make a memory that will last a lifetime."

The tweet apparently was deleted shortly after it was posted.

In a statement Monday, the department said the tweet was sent by someone on its social media team and was meant to be lighthearted. Instead, the statement said, it upset some people.

The department called the incident a "learning experience" that shows words can be hurtful even if they are intended to be humorous.

 you can't give some kids that option..

I knew a guy with a little brother who were brought up by their Mom only. Little brother was a spoiled shit disturber. Mom worked two jobs to support them.

Little brother didn't like the food they were eating one night for dinner, claiming they eat it 'more than once per week.'

Kid started throwing things and Mom got angry. The little brother then threatened to call the police tip line and say that Mom was abusing him.

I guess she looked at him from about 2 inches away and said in a really quiet voice - You've heard about the milk cartons with the pictures of missing kids on them? If you call that number you'll be on the next carton.

The kid got such a look of petrified fear on his face my friend said he had to leave the room he was laughing so hard
