Well, Elon's a cult of personality, there are tax breaks for people who'd own one, it's kinda cool, and who wouldn't want to get away from paying for gas every couple days of constant daily driving?

He needs to give more options for the interior. Completely black and partially white and black interiors don't really thrill me. They would both be hell in the summer. Maybe a grayish interior? What kind of material are they using for the seats?

I might be interested in a decade when they have the fully autonomous thing nailed down. Then I could scream at people about it being the god damned robots, John!

Our media isn't really saying anything about the company, except the business news occasionally says something about the stock price when talking about auto manufacturers. At least that's what I've seen.

In psychology - at least how I was trained - mental diagnosis is not viewed as a limiting factor.

She was depressed before she became an activist and seems to be enjoying being able to contribute to improving environmental (and social) awareness around the globe. She does seem quite level-headed and self-aware.

True. And doubtless many will try. However autism has many flavours. In my mind her being so young would be the main point of contention, rather than her autism.

I guess it comes down to how responsible her father (who is travelling with her) is as a parent - and whether he is making sure she has pressure-free days. Similar situations would apply to young performing artists & sportspeople who tour.

It's not in our control. You can't tell China and India what to do, and they're the biggest polluters on the planet. Ranting and raving about it isn't going to help any. No one's listening to you. That's what happens when you wag your finger and patronize people constantly.

If by 'you' you mean me, I'm not intending to be patronizing. i'm teasing you guys to be light-hearted. But I take the issue seriously.

India and China are moving towards solar, but at the same time building more coal-fired power plants. As you said, they do what they want to do. I am ok with leadership beginning in the West, though, you start where it's easy. We can take care of China and India later. Also, they are weak and tend to immitate what the West does.

I didn't post it, but there have been weeks in Britain this year, where the entire country has gone without coal-fired power. And this was the country that essentially invented coal-power. So change can happen.

If environmentalists spent as much time trying to develop legitimate viable alternatives that could outshine our current best energy sources as they do sitting around wagging their fingers and bitching at all of us, then maybe we could get somewhere.

I agree, they can be annoying. I think Greta's ability to be critical is valid, though. She is a child and therefore should trust that the adults are going to be able custodians of the planet until her generation's time to take over.

Nothing ever changes when all people do is sit around and bitch. If you want shit to change in the world, you have to be the change you want to see in the world, and you can't do it with words. Get off your ass and DO something about it.

Well, I think words can be inspiring to others that can build and invent stuff (and consumers who can make choice).

What I don't get is the anti-environmentalists, like Trump. Well...I do get it, but I think there are more mature ways to make the point that other countries aren't pulling there weight. This is where politics does come into it and it's back to China and India. Which 2 countries in the world are going to be most fucked if the earth does warm as predicted? China and India. Many millions could die. So they will reap as they have sown. I think it's a dangerous path to let them go under though, because then they become dangerous. They both have nuclear weapons.

We already have a cheap and sustainable power source: nuclear. And I'm not talking about Soviet era Chernobyl type reactors, but western built technology that has greatly advanced since most nuclear power plants have been built. But environmentalists hate nuclear power, they say for environmental reasons or because of the chance for accidents (which are very slim) but it comes down to the fact that they oppose it because they are driven by money. They want all that money that these blissful idiots pushing things like the Green New Deal want for tech that isn't even proven to work yet. The US taxpayer has lost a lot of money already because Barry pushed this kinda crap on us and company after company either went broke or couldn't deliver and all the tax money went with it.

So for you Lost to dismiss the opinion or studies of anyone that even had a hint of working with oil companies in their past, then you can see why we can dismiss the findings of all the Chicken Littles out there. And if you are so blind to it just because they say they're doing it because they're "saving the earth" and have no ulterior motives either, then you are being disingenuous. Lost. I am going to ask a simple question. For 20 years there have been catastrophic predictions. What predictions have come to fruition? I hope you can appreciate the "crying wolf" perspective.

I'll just answer you as a scientist ( though from another field).

It's far too early. On the current trend with moderate predictions, most of the catastrophic stuff will hit more towards the end of the century and into the 22nd Century. This includes parts of the tropics uninhabitable for humans (without artificial support) due to heat and many coastal cities of the World, including the US severely affected (due to storm surge). It might include breakdown of major ecosystems such as Himalayan tributaries/rivers, though ( famine)). And it could include Gulf Stream Collapse that would render ice age conditions in Europe (this has happened before)

As for now, it's only severe on fragile ecosystems, such as the Arctic and our Great Barrier Reef and Glaciers. These have changed massively already. I don't think you understand this as it is so unbelievable, so I'll emphasise this for you. We have lost 1/2 the Great Barrier Reef already to Climate Change. It's dead. Just words on a page huh? As for direct human effects NOW which is probably what you are asking there is good evidence for stronger and more frequent hurricanes. Heatwaves, of course ( this is also easy to associate) We have had more droughts (but this is harder to associated). Miami has begun to flood a little already (small stuff ). Stronger Winter storms.

In short, the US will have it easy for a long while. Just hurricanes and winter storms. Of course, what happens to the rest of the world will affect everyone. The financial cost of this all is, course, Billions and beyond calculation for the future.

That's not a whole hell of a lot compared to the actual cost to provide the healthier lunches. Face it, in the US it costs that much more to eat like a health nazi. And regardless if it's better for them, it doesn't taste as good (it doesn't do any good to serve healthier lunches if they're just winding up in the trash can), and again, the choice was taken away. That's really the biggest issue: the choice.

I don't know the detail of the subsidies. I appreciate the truth of what you say. Kids don't like eating healthy stuff (watched 4 years of meal-time tantrums with my last partner). And it definitely costs more.

If you want to blame anyone for Hong Kong's predicament, then blame the UN and Britain. Britain had control of Hong Kong until 1997, when they gave it back to China. The UN had Hong Kong on its list on Non-Self-Governing Territories, but removed Hong Kong from that list at China's urging in the 1970s, and I really don't understand how that could work since Hong Kong was a British territory in the 1970s. All I can think of is that China wasn't nearly as big and powerful back then as it is today, so we all just kind of gave in whenever they wanted something (thanks, everybody in the world, dumbasses). Anyway, I'm not sure whether or not Hong Kong wanted to be part of China again while they were under British control, someone would have to educate me on that, but I can tell you that they haven't really wanted to be part of China since 1997. The British were a lot better to Hong Kong than Communist China will ever be. Anyway, when the UN removed Hong Kong from that list at China's urging, it dashed any hope of Hong Kong becoming it's own nation, which would be the best option for Hong Kong.

>An Atlantic City police officer is being hailed as a hero for stopping a suicidal man from jumping from the top of a casino parking garage. Dramatic body camera footage shows Officer Eric Knuttel, a five-year veteran, pulling the distraught man from the ledge of the 13-story-high Claridge parking garage on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old officer spoke exclusively with CBS3.

>“You could just hear in his voice he was distraught and he was hurting,” Knuttel said.

According to Atlantic City Police, the Pleasantville Police Department reached out to them that a suicidal man was in Atlantic City and threatening to jump from the bridge.

Knuttel, a member of the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, located the distressed man sitting on a ledge at the top of the garage and began engaging him to talk him down.

>“We had a fairly long conversation. We were going to try to build rapport with him, so he knew somebody cared, and he knew somebody was there for him and not just him against the world,” Knuttel said.

Everyone goes to the ground where officers try consoling the man as Knuttel rubs his back and their eyes meet. Knuttel told the man, “I love you.”

>“I just could just hear it in his voice, he started crying. You could hear him weeping and I just remember telling him I loved him. I thought he needed to hear that,” Knuttel said. “I had so much compassion and so much love for the man that I wanted him to know that people care about him. I never met him ever in my life. I believe that I was put there in that moment of time for that reason.”

The man was transported to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Knuttel is hoping to stay in contact with the man he helped save.

>“I know in my heart that man will succeed in life,” Knuttel said.
