this is right up there with The Evil Dead remakes :|

The Thing (80's version) freaked everyone out and became a classic....now they're going to CGI the hell out of it and no Snake Plisken as the star

This is a prequel, not a remake. This supposedly tells the Norwegian's story of finding it and what happens to the Norwegian camp that Macready, Norris, and Palmer (I believe those were the three... Lee should be along to correct me if I'm wrong) visit.

If nothing else, the ending should be no surprise: Two Norwegian's in a helicopter chasing down a dog in the snow.

Okay, in light of that I'll give this a chance...thanks for ruining the potential ending tho :x

I didn't ruin the ending. John Carpenter did back in 1982.

Have they nicked Bill Lancasters script or something

I'm open to this but I have a problem with it. From wikipedia:

When an experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate joins the crew's pilot, Carter, to keep it from killing and imitating them one at a time, using its uncanny ability to mimic any life form it absorbs through digestion, and potentially reaching civilization.

In the original, the thing could take over multiple hosts at the same time. It's separated parts could act independently. It's cells could take over a host and imitate it. Why change that?

Why change that?If I'm not mistaken the splitface thing they find at the camp in the first movie is two people merged together in this movie. Which makes since because from what it showed in the original it had multiple limbs....so maybe it does imitate more than one of them at a time.

I just don't like the way the description is worded. It would suck if that was literally what goes on, since the possibility that anyone and everyone could've been "infected" at any given time was part of what made Carpenter's original so damn good... it kept you guessing. But maybe you're right, Doc. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It's rated R here in the States. You have to be 17 or older to see it without being accompanied by an adult.
