A Pennsylvania couple is accused of theft after going on a shopping spree with $120,000 that was mistakenly deposited into their bank account, according to a report.

Robert Williams and his wife, Tiffany Williams, appeared in court Tuesday after they spent two and a half weeks blowing through most of their accidental windfall on expenses such as cars, bills and a camper, news station WNEP reported.

Both Robert, 36, and his 35-year-old wife were arraigned on charges for theft and receiving stolen property.

State police said that BB&T Bank deposited the dough into the couple’s account on May 31 in a clerical error by a bank teller.

But by June 19, the pair had spent six figures on purchases that included an SUV, two four-wheelers and a car trailer.

They also allegedly used the money for bills, car repairs, cash purchases, as well as gave $15,000 for friends, WNEP reported.

On June 20, the bank contacted Tiffany about the mistake — and to notify her that the money had been taken out of the account, resulting in a $107,416 overdraft fee, the Williamsport Sun-Gazette reported.

She told the bank that she “would speak to her husband and attempt to construct a repayment agreement,” police said.

But when the couple went dark on the bank, authorities were contacted to help recoup the stolen money.

Robert admitted to investigators in late July that he and his wife had known the “mislaid money did not belong to them, but they spent it anyway,” the newspaper reported.

How stupid are people? There is never a bank error in your favor. Wouldn't you be the least bit curious as to why the money was in your account? Wouldn't you call or stop into the bank and see what's going on first? :shakehead:

:(

I knew someone who had little money and the government sent him and his wife a check for around 2000 bucks. They went on a weekend trip and bought a used car. When asked by coworkers if he was worried about it being a mistake, he laughed and said something like - If the government makes a mistake it's their issue, not mine.

Turns out it was a mistake and last I heard the government was garnishing their wages. Same guy never checked the oil in the car he bought and the engine went. He actually tried to come back on the person who sold it to him (second hand) and apparently that was another legal shitshow

Same guy...knocked a propane heater down suspended from the roof with a forklift which caused the entire printshop he was working in to be evacuated.

He was overheard arguing with firefighters because he wouldn't leave the area and was heard to say - "He was invaluable and could help the firefighters turn the event into something positive."

 I met the guy a few times...he actually talked like that

Oh his shit was nothing. Same event with the propane leak. One of our sales reps was caught attempting to bribe one of the workers to go back into the printshop to finish a print job for one of her clients.

The fire dept had cordoned off the area and told management no one goes in until the next day after they tested the air.

The guy ratted out the sales rep because she first offered him 250 bucks to go in at night and finish the press run/do the bindery on the forms and when he refused she tried to threaten him with his job.

fuck I hated that company
