The nation’s most-anticipated college rankings are out and a familiar New Jersey campus remains at the top of the list.
Princeton University is the No. 1 national university on U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 Best Colleges rankings released Monday. The Ivy League school has topped the list over the last several years, beating out rival Harvard University, which came in second.
U.S. News uses data, including academic quality and what happens to students after graduation, to rank nearly 1,400 schools each year.
“We’ve found the best institutions to be ones committed to academically and financially supporting their students through graduation. They draw in high-quality professors and set students up for postgraduate success," said Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News.
This year, U.S. News added a new ranking “Top Performers in Social Mobility,” which evaluates which schools are best for low-income and other underrepresented students. Rutgers-Newark tied for fourth on the new list.
