The Iranian military has been filmed firing at a mystery object travelling "with alien technology", online viewers have claimed.

In the astonishing video, anti-aircraft artillery can be seen unloading a barrage of rounds at a glowing object in the skies.

The craft somehow seems to evade all the shots fired by moving at incredible speeds and pulling off otherworldly manoeuvres.

As it moves closer to the camera, the craft seems to be shaped like a boomerang.

It was filmed on September 8 near the town of Saravan in the south-east of the country.

Twitter user @khaamenei_ir posted it online and claimed the object was a "US Reconnaissance UAV".

But the footage has since made waves across the internet – with many claiming the striking manoeuvres of the object mean it can't possibly be a normal aircraft.

Popular YouTube theorist DiscloseTV commented: "The military believes it was a UAV spy drone but since this aircraft is so fast, stops mid-air, turns instantly and immediately accelerates to incredible speeds, it is more likely it is something equipped with alien technology – alien or Earthbound."

Cyrus Shares, who describes himself as an entrepreneur and lifelong advocate of "Iran Regime Change", tweeted: “LOL apparently the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps tried to shoot down a UFO they thought to be a US drone.

“That thing glows bright and moves so fast it must be a classified technology by either US and Israel intentionally visible for entertainment.”

Many others agreed, with one saying: "A drone would not stand that fire for five seconds."

Another added: "That’s a UFO alright. A drone doesn’t shine like that."

But a third was more sceptical saying: "It's a hologram projected from a satellite."

Tensions between Iran and the US have simmered over the past few months after a number of oil tankers were seized by Iran's military in the region.

And they appeared to reach a boiling point this week when US officials claimed missiles that struck a Saudi Arabian oil filed came from within Iran .

I wouldn't mind getting his opinion on it since there's pretty good video footage of it being fired on by the Iranian military :-k
