“No matter how political the background to this crisis may be, we must not allow this to continue to be a partisan political question. The climate and ecological crisis is beyond party politics. And our main enemy right now is not our political opponents. Our main enemy now is physics. And we can not make ‘deals’ with physics.” -Greta Thunberg

Exactly, plus nuclear has zero carbon emissions.

But it does have nuclear waste, and that has to be dealt with, with extraordinary care. I'm not saying that nuclear isn't a viable option, but it absolutely is not perfect. Fission does have its byproducts, and they are fairly dangerous. I refer you back to the article about the inadequate storage at the Bikini Atoll. Similar byproducts on a smaller scale are produced by nuclear reactions to produce energy.

Granted, but nuclear power is A LOT safer than it's portrayed as being, usually by environmentalists. And while the waste can be an issue, it seems like Earth's lifeless moon would be a great repository for nuclear waste, and with the cost of space flight coming down thanks to the likes of SpaceX, I'm sure it would become economical as well.

I don't know about the moon. Send the waste to Venus. There's no chance of that planet becoming habitable ever. It's way too close to the sun to support life.

Well at that point, might as well just send it straight on to the sun and have it be incinerated.

That'd be cool if they could do it in our lifetime. I think they'll need to absolutely perfect rocketry first though... can you imagine a ship loaded with tons of nuclear waste needing to abort launch over the US or the ocean? Bad news

Pretty cool work being done to burry it so it's safe for thousands of years, but the interesting problem there is what if we forget about it and humans in the far future stumble across it thinking it's treasure, say for example like we did with the Pyramids? How do we write warnings on them so that they're universally heeded, regardless of language or culture. Interesting problem to think about.

I do believe the climate is changing. So are the magnetic poles. So is the output of the sun. I believe humans have an impact on our environment. What I emphatically do not believe is "climate change" as espoused by various governments (and their proposed ways to fix said change).
