CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Good Samaritan said he was stabbed in the back after stopping to help a Cape Coral driver whose car broke down.
The brutal attack happened Wednesday morning along Del Prado Boulevard South.
“This is very extreme, and this is very out of the ordinary for us,” Cape Coral Police’s Master Sgt. Patrick O’Grady said.
According to the incident report, the victim told police he was traveling north on the busy road when he spotted a man pulled over with his car that seemed like it had broken down.
The victim asked the driver if he needed help, and the driver agreed. As the victim walked closer to the suspect’s car, he was stabbed in the back. The victim said the suspect then walked back to his car and took off with the knife in hand.
“Anytime you stop to help someone you’re doing this at your own risk. You don’t know who you’re stopping with, but at the same time you still want to help people,” O’Grady said.
O’Grady said police still have a lot of details to investigate such as narrowing down the exact spot where this happened and obtaining a better description of the attacker.
