MILWAUKEE, WI — Authorities say a 33-year-old Milwaukee man blamed a double-shooting on his 4-year-old daughter, then changed his story to the more truthful version once police warned him about the charges he would be up against if he continued his tale.

Initial reports from earlier this week indicated that the 4-year-old daughter of Myles Kovac found and shot his gun, injuring both she and her father. The story, as told by Kovac, did not hold up for long, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee Police were called to Children's Hospital on the morning of Oct. 20 on a report that Kovac and his four-year-old daughter had been struck by gunfire near 61st and Morgan.

Police said Kovac had a bullet graze wound to his left buttock, and the girl had a gunshot wound to her left foot. Police said both were treated at a local hospital, and neither suffered life-threatening injuries.

When police questioned Kovac about the shooting, he reportedly told two different stories about how he and his daughter had been shot.

According to court documents, investigators found no evidence of a shooting at either of the two locations Kovac told police. When police investigated Kovac's home on the 3600 block of S. 61st Street, they found small amounts of blood on the living room floor and a bullet hole in one of the walls.

Police say Kovac eventually admitted that it was he who shot the gun, once police told him the charges he would face in court.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County Kovac, has been arrested and charged with neglecting a child, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and obstructing an officer.

Kovac made his initial appearance in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Thursday, and is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on more than $10,000 bond, according to court records posted online Thursday.
