A behavioral therapist had sex with a 17 year-old boy with autism who was in her care, police say.
Victoria West, 28, reportedly took advantage of the teenager ‘on multiple occasions’ during November while working at the Leffen Center for Autism in Joplin, Missouri.
The illicit encounters reportedly happened at the nearby Schifferdecker Park.
She was charged Friday, with her crimes said to have kicked-off at the Leffen Center, which boasts of offering ‘gold-standard diagnostic, treatment and educational services for individuals with autistic spectrum disorders.’
Local police were notified of West’s alleged behavior on December 4. It is unclear how the alleged grooming was brought to their attention.
West is currently being held on house arrest in an ankle monitor, and has been barred from contact with anyone under the age of 18, the Joplin Globe reported.
The age of consent in Missouri is 17, but adults in a position of authority over youngsters aged 17 or 18 can still be charged with exploiting them.
A date for West’s next court appearance has yet to be set.
