View Full Version : Celebrity Death Pool 2020

Teh One Who Knocks
12-31-2019, 10:46 AM
As this year winds down and we get closer to the new year, it's time for the next installment of the Death Pool! Same rules as previous years, PM me your list of 15 celebs/famous people (it has to be someone that is well known and is in the news/gossip rags) that you want on your list and we will get the ball rolling. After the lists are finalized I will add them to this first post. And just a quick reminder on the scoring system or for any new players, you start at 100 and then subtract the dead person's age and those are your points. So obviously the younger someone is, the bigger the score. Person with the most points at 11:59 PM MST December 31st, 2020 will be the winner.

I want to give everyone ample time and because of the holidays I would like to have the lists in by the end of the day of January 17th, which is a Friday. Even if you have PM'ed me your list, you can make changes up until that point, after that, each list is final and official. I will not post any list here until they are all final so that way no one can be stealing other people's ideas (and please don't say who you are choosing until the lists are up). I'm hoping for at least as good a turnout as last previous years, maybe even better! Be creative and let's get it on!

"Olney was in the middle of his third song when he stopped, apologized and shut his eyes," Rigby wrote in a Facebook post. "He was very still, sitting upright with his guitar on, wearing the coolest hat and a beautiful rust suede jacket we laughed about because it was raining like hell outside the boathouse where we were playing- I just want the picture to be as graceful and dignified as it was, because it at first looked like he was just taking a moment."

The Nobel Peace Prize winner and prominent Northern Ireland politician John Hume has died aged 83.
He died in a Derry nursing home following a long period of illness.
One of the highest-profile politicians in Northern Ireland for more than 30 years, he helped create the climate that brought an end to the Troubles.
He was a founding member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) in 1970 and led the party from 1979 until 2001.

John Hume you may not know, but he is probably the best politician ever to come from Northern Ireland, working for the people of Northern Ireland in a peaceful manner throughout his life.
I doubt any, will have a single bad word to say regarding this man.
And for our little part of the world, that is a statement that can very very rarely be uttered.
If each country had a few of him, the world would be an amazing place.

I'm sorry, i am going to repy to my own post, and post an Obituary
Stolen from the BBC

Obituary: John Hume, SDLP leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner

As the leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), John Hume helped create the climate that brought an end to violence in Northern Ireland.

When the IRA called a ceasefire in August 1994, it was greeted with jubilation and relief across Northern Ireland.

Despite enormous criticism, Hume always defended his decision to talk to Sinn Féin in order to build that peace process.

While many people were involved, the SDLP leader's role was crucial.

"Politics," he once said, "is the alternative to war."

John Hume's involvement in the cauldron of Northern Ireland politics began on the streets of his home city, Derry, where he was born in 1937.

Post-war education reforms enabled him to win a scholarship to the local grammar school and he trained briefly for the priesthood, before returning to work as a teacher.

Drawn into public life, Hume began to campaign on issues such as housing and helped set up a credit union in his native city. But more traumatic times lay ahead.

Despite a majority nationalist population, Derry's council was controlled by unionists - and its reform was among the key demands of the civil rights movement.

Hume lived in the Bogside, scene of some of the earliest confrontations, and he witnessed at first hand the slide from peaceful protest to violent street confrontation.

As the situation in Northern Ireland became worse, he joined with other constitutional nationalists, including Gerry Fitt, in founding the SDLP. Its objective was a united Ireland - but this was only to be achieved by consent.

Nationalist resentment was fuelled by the introduction of internment without trial in 1971.

When a march to an Army camp, where some of the internees were being held, turned to confrontation, it was Hume who voiced the protesters' anger, confronting an Army officer and asking him: "Are you proud of the way your men have treated these people?"

In the years that followed, John Hume's influence continued to grow. Initiatives such as the Sunningdale Agreement, which established a short-lived power sharing assembly involving unionists and nationalists, were a tribute to his campaigning.

John Hume with Gerry Adams in 1992 - He always defended his decision to talk to Sinn Féin
In 1985, he played a key role in negotiations over the Anglo-Irish Agreement which for the first time gave Dublin a limited say in the affairs of Northern Ireland.

Elected as the MP for Foyle in 1983, he was also well regarded as a Member of the European Parliament. He had enormous influence in the United States, where he rubbed shoulders with Teddy Kennedy and Bill Clinton.

But it was in direct talks with Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams, which reached a new intensity in 1994, that he took his biggest risk in the search for peace, provoking unionist fury.

The Hume-Adams talks helped pave the way for the historic Downing Street declaration, and the IRA ceasefire months later.

The ceasefire was to last 17 months before being blown apart by a bomb in London's docklands. But, even though the IRA returned to its campaign of violence, the Hume-Adams dialogue continued as multi-party talks began without Sinn Féin in 1996.

The following year saw the election of Tony Blair's Labour government, which agreed to multi-party talks continuing in tandem with the decommissioning of paramilitary weapons.

Sinn Féin was to be invited to participate, provided that the IRA reinstated its ceasefire.

In July 1997, the ceasefire came, followed two months later, by Sinn Fein's inclusion in the talks. Once again, John Hume had been central to momentous events in Northern Ireland.

Glory day for the Good Friday Agreement: David Trimble, Bono and John Hume pictured together on stage in Belfast in 1998
It did not stop all the violence, as John Hume had hoped, but he was able to argue that hundreds of lives had been saved.

John Hume never lost the conviction that negotiations would in the end provide the solution and, he saw the 1998 Good Friday Agreement as proof of all he had argued for over the years. It was his crowning political moment; the agreement would not have happened without him.

His contribution was recognised with the award of the Nobel Peace Prize which he received jointly with Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble.

Typically, Hume saw the award as an endorsement of the peace process he had done so much to create.

It was his fellow SDLP member Seamus Mallon who assumed the deputy first minister role in the new Northern Ireland Assembly.

John Hume's huge workload took a toll on his health.

In August 1999, he was rushed to hospital while attending a conference in the Austrian resort of Alpbach.

Former US President Bill Clinton paid tribute to John Hume in Derry in 2014
He resigned as leader of the SDLP in September 2001, having been at the helm for 22 years. He said he had suffered from serious health problems and would be cutting down on his workload.

In recent years, John Hume struggled with dementia and had to step away from the public stage.

Speaking in 2018, on the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, his wife, Pat, said he had little recollection of the role he had played in Northern Ireland's political life.

"It is very sad, his memory has just gone. John does not remember very much about the agreement of 1998, or about the Anglo Irish Agreement or Sunningdale or anything else," she said.

"Yet he gave his entire life to the achievement of them. But he is in a good place, he is content, he is very happy."

John Hume had difficulties remembering day-to-day occurrences, his wife Pat said
Whatever the subsequent developments in the fractious politics of Northern Ireland, Hume's reputation remained intact.

Along with his Nobel Prize, he was awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize and the Martin Luther King Award, and in 2010 a poll by Irish broadcaster RTE named him "Ireland's Greatest Person", beating the likes of Mary Robinson, Michael Collins and Bono to the title.

During a visit to Derry in 2014, former US president Bill Clinton said "this town and John Hume's insistence on non-violence and the embrace of it ultimately by the other parties, notably Sinn Fein" served as an inspiration.

He added: "I implore you, for the sake of the young people and all of those who did so much for so long, like John Hume - finish the job."

They had some good tunes, and I fkn love how the bass drum sounds. Dr Feelgood, Kick Start My Heart, Wild Side....sure they had some lame shit, all the hair metal bands did, but their good tunes were better than most of the other hair bands.

I guess GnR qualifies as hair metal, but metallica? Metallica's dead to me as of the Black album anyway tho. When I listen to AJFA, I make sure its one of the ones that fans have put real bass tracks over that drowns almost everything else out

GnR was an Aerosmith clone, but I agree, they were not hair metal. Pre-Black Album, Metallica were the kings of thrash metal, also not hair metal. Post-Black album, they were just a shell of their former selves sadly trying to fit in a world that was changing around them.

When I experienced it back in the 80s, I did not appreciate hair metal. My adherence to thrash and death metal and punk rock forbade it. However, as I've gotten older, I have found value in it... but not in Motley Crue. There are/were some ridiculously good guitar players in hair metal bands, and some really good songs.

I don't know about that whole hipster thing. Where I grew up the "hipsters" of the day were listening to top 40 pop.

We had a local radio station that played all the new top 40 music.. I could swear they had Motley Crue on there.. I first heard of them from some Q-94 listeners. As far as getting older, I will admit I like to hear some of Motly Crues songs here and there, (home sweet home, kick start my fart, etc) but for all intents and purposed they still kind of suck and are weak sauce.

Also, I in no way agree on your Aerosmith comparison.

Upon aging and quiet reflection, two subtle facts will dawn on you:

1, GnR were a band that were heavily influenced by 70's era Aerosmith. Put some punk rock and pop sensibilities into the mix, and one shitty vocalist, and you've got GnR.

2. The Black Crowes (a band that I absolutely love, mind you), desperately wanted to be the Rolling Stones. Throw in a bunch of Southern Rock influence and you've got the Black Crowes.

I've known these 2 facts since the mid-90s, and many other music fans and musicians agree with me.

Drunk driving accident in '84. He killed his passenger, the Hanoi Rocks drummer, which precipitated the break-up of the band. They were driving to the liquor store. There was also 2 victims in another vehicle, who I believe survived but were rendered permanently disabled because of the accident. Brain damage. Of course, Neil walked away, injury free... which is usually how these stupid stories go... the drunk driver walks away scot-free, injury-free. He wrote a $2.5 million check and served 20 days of a 30-day sentence for vehicular manslaughter.

He pretty much single-handedly (pardon the pun  ) won the World Cup for Argentina in '86, something that neither Messi or C.Ronaldo have managed. RIP Diego Armando Maradona, the greatest of all time.

From Sports Illustrated's list of the 50 greatest footballers of all time:

https://i.imgur.com/Njppf4w.png

Peak: 1985-90

Major Achievements: 90min's Greatest Footballer of All Time, Corriere dello Sport's Best Athlete in History, 1986 FIFA World Cup, 1986 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball, 1985 Serie A Footballer of the Year, FIFA World Cup All-Time Team, FIFA Goal of the Century, Argentine Sports Writers' Sportsman of the Century, two-time South American Footballer of the Year, four-time Argentine Football Writers' Footballer of the Year, two Scudetti, one Coppa Italia, one Copa del Rey, one UEFA Cup.

So what makes Diego Armando Maradona 90min's greatest footballer of all time?

Is it the fact that he won the FIFA World Cup in a way that no one else has ever been capable of doing - single handedly?

Is it the fact that he scored the two most significant goals in footballing history?

Is it the fact that one of these goals was the greatest goal of all time? The impossible made possible by a true genius?

Is it the fact that he joined SSC Napoli - a downtrodden, unwanted, unfancied team - and made them the best team in the strongest league Europe has ever seen?

Is it the fact that in his native land he is considered to be a God? A working class hero that empowered a nation through his messianic talent?

It's all of the above.

Diego Maradona, at his very best, is the greatest footballer we have, and will ever see. Effective and exceptional in equal measure.

The best of the best.

Rupert Neve 1926-2021
Published 13/2/21
Legendary designer dies aged 94

We are very sad to report the death of Rupert Neve, perhaps the most important and influential designer in recording-studio history. Mr. Neve passed away at the age of 94 in his adoptive home of Wimberley, Texas, but his name will be forever associated with the British company he founded in 1961. He was quick to see the potential of solid-state electronics, designing his first all-transistor console in the mid-’60s, and would go on to create seminal designs such as the 1073 and 1084 preamp/EQ modules. Neve consoles became first choice for recording studios and broadcasters all around the world, and by the time he and wife Evelyn sold Neve Electronics in 1975, the company employed over 500 people.

Rupert Neve remained active as a consultant and equipment developer, and in the 1980s he founded Focusrite to bring his latest designs to market. The Focusrite consoles were among the most advanced analogue mixers ever made, but their unrivalled quality came at a cost, and in the end only eight were made. Modules from those consoles are now highly sought-after, and Neve's designs for both his original company and Focusrite are still in production today.

Neve was then instrumental in the success of Amek Systems, where his console designs offered unprecedented quality for the cost, and also worked with Taylor Guitars before designing a line of premium microphones for sE Electronics in 2011. He and Evelyn moved to Texas in 1994 and in 2005 he established Rupert Neve Designs, where he continued to develop innovative products and pass on his 70-plus years of accumulated experience.

Rupert Neve is survived by Evelyn and their five children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

dont mind him, he's just blindly whistling the piper's tune as usual and probably never listened to 12 seconds of Rush in his lifetime, going by media industrial complex tabloid gossip as he does for every other bit of info to be believed

I first listened in 89 or so, shortly after I got out of the service. What people forget is that he was an entertainer, in all actuality no different than any other radio personality. He happened to tailor his stuff to conservatives when few if any others did at the time. I certainly didn't agree with all his views, but I can honestly say I never caught him falsifying any reports. He'll be missed.

The times I actually listened I never found myself disagreeing, except that he would just acquiesce on definitions of words like Liberal - instead of talking to his audience about what Classical Liberalism is and how Progressives just up and decided to usurp the term once Progressive became a dirty word and nobody wanted to be associated with it. I found his show a bit too pedantic and pointing vaguely at the liberals as the cause of the problems, when in reality the issues are much deeper.

But then again, we all saw what happened to Bill Cooper when ya go too deep :rip:

And dare I say, that's fucking disgusting, and anyone that would say that about a man that meant so much to so many don't deserve a platform to speak from.

:rip: Legendary radio host, and enemy of the NWO, Alan Watt, died on Thursday the 4th of March 2021.
He was a great man, who was incredibly knowledgable able the technocratic elites, and their history. He was a true advocate for the truth and humanity.

Last week we received the very sad news that Thomas Cleary, one of the greatest translators of our time, passed away on June 20, 2021. Thomas Cleary (1949-2021) was the most prolific translator of Asian Classics of our time, translating and introducing over eighty works from Chinese, Japanese, Sanskrit, Pali, Bengali, Arabic, and Old Irish. Shambhala Publications publishes over sixty.

(Maybe Lost will know who this guy is, the rest of yas, highly doubtful)
