A DEA diversion investigator is facing federal charges for allegedly sending photos of his genitals to an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old — and then pressuring the agent to reciprocate.
“Let me see yours,” Frederick Scheinin wrote the undercover via an encrypted chat app last month, after first sending the officer a photo of his erect penis, the feds allege.
The 29-year-old originally began speaking to the undercover on an unspecified dating app, and then moved on to the messaging app, where the duo communicated between October 2019 and January 2020, the feds allege.
The two also chatted via video, where the investigator exposed himself, masturbated and tried to pressure the fake 14-year-old into returning the favor, the feds allege.
When the agent declined and said he was nervous, Scheinin is accused of replying, “What if I find like a new cute boy to talk to while I’m so horny right now.”
They allegedly made plans to meet for a sexual encounter at an undisclosed location on Jan. 16 — but instead agents arrested him when he showed with a condom and a bottle of lube.
Scheinin, from Sunnyside, is facing charges of attempting to produce child porn and enticing a minor to have sex.
He appeared in Manhattan federal court Friday, where he was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
“As a diversion investigator at the DEA, Frederick Scheinin’s foremost responsibility was to protect the public from illegally diverted drugs,” Manhattan US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said in a statement. “Instead of fulfilling this worthy mission, Scheinin allegedly spent months attempting to prey on a 14-year-old boy. This arrest exemplifies that no one is above the law.”
Scheinin faces up to 30 years behind bars if convicted.
