An Altoona man was arrested early Sunday after police say he called and texted a woman while he was burglarizing her home.

John E. Farabaugh, 54, was found inside the home on the 3200 block of Seventh Avenue after Altoona police responded about 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the charges. The woman called 911 after receiving phone calls and text messages from Farabaugh in which he told her he had broken into her home. She was not home, according to the charges, and she told police she and her friends were giving Farabaugh a ride home from a local veterans club that night when he opened the door and got out of the moving vehicle near her home.

Police said the door to the woman’s house had been kicked in and Farabaugh allegedly had baseball cards and drill bits and attachments he had taken from the home.

Farabaugh also sent messages to the woman to tell her he knew how to hot wire a car and was going to steal her vehicle, police noted.

Police allegedly found a pill bottle with acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride pills on Farabaugh when he was taken into custody.

Farabaugh faces charges that include felony burglary, criminal trespass and theft. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller on Sunday and remains in Blair County Prison with bail set at $20,000 cash.
