Two Russian aircrafts have been scrambled by Royal Air Force Typhoons off of the coast of the UK.

The Royal Air Force deployed the pair of Typhoons from its base near Moray.

The Typhoons were launched in response to a Quick Reaction Alert at 8.10am this morning.

A voyager tanker, the air-to-air refuelling aircraft - from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, was also deployed to support the mission.

The Ministry of Defence have not revealed the nature of the operation, but have confirmed the deployment.

The Russian aircraft were later identified as Tupolev Tu-95 Bears-Russian planes.

Both are used as strategic bombers and long-range maritime patrol planes.

The total number of Russian aircraft involve in the incident has not been confirmed.

It comes just four days after two supersonic jets intercepted a Russian bomber flying north of Scotland, near the Arctic Circle.

The nuclear-capable aircraft often carry exercises over the northern Atlantic, regularly prompting action from Britain and its allies in NATO.

Military chiefs said the aircraft did not require to be intercepted, and has since departed the airspace.

At the time, the Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoons have been launched at RAF Lossiemouth after unidentified aircraft were tracking towards UK airspace.

"These unidentified aircraft remained outside our area of interest and no interception took place."

He added the service was unable to confirm the number or type of unidentified aircraft involved.

It is believed other aircraft from Norway and the Netherlands were also scrambled as the aircraft flew over northern Europe.

Pandemics. Nuclear altercations. Now all we need is a mysterious hidden planet or comet strike to kick start this armageddon thing.

Not to downplay it, but Canadian jets scramble from CFB Comox and Cold Lake fairly often when the Russians go and check on NORAD response. Happens at least a few times a year and the press always make it sound momentous  I think we do the same shit back.
