Pornhub has reacted immediately to the coronavirus pandemic with a series of measures that are, at least according to people on social media, more effective than any government’s.
The site, which boasts some 42 billion visits a year, made its premium content free to users in Italy from March 12 until April 3 to help Italians get through their national lockdown.
Pornhub – easily the world’s most popular online source or pornographic videos – is donating its March proceeds from live cam site Modelhub to support coronavirus victims in Italy.
Pornhub premium offers users ultra high definition 4K content, no ad breaks, and VR content. This premium access usually costs €9.99 (about £9.35) per month in Italy.

The site’s statisticians found major changes in Italy’s demand for porn even before its announcement.
On March 11, traffic at 2am was 47% higher than normal and remained 25% above average even at 5am.
By 6am, traffic had dipped by 16%. But 10am traffic had grown 10% above normal levels and remained above average until mid-afternoon.
Evening traffic at 9pm was 12% higher than 9pm on an average day.

There’s been a curious surge in searches for coronavirus as a search term in the site.
Slovakians, for example, are most keen on the bizarre search term.
They’re 119% more likely than an average person to search for coronavirus porn.
Porn enthusiasts from the Republic of Ireland share the second most likely spot, at an equal 88% along with Bulgaria.

The site has since expanded its free premium offering to Spain and France. But not everyone’s happy about that.
Dozens of UK porn fans have angrily demanded that Brits need free mucky movies too.
Kevlar, on Twitter, said: "If we in the UK and Ireland go into lockdown, we better get PornHub for free like Italy or I'll really be p****d off!!"
Mr Fahrenheit chipped in: "Italy now offering premium Pornhub for free. It all makes sense now, all this toilet roll buying. UK is getting ready."

Danny Ledger cheekily added: "I’m planning my 14-day quarantine when Pornhub give the UK free premium subscription if I’m being completely honest."
Overall, though, people were impressed with Pornhub stepping up to the plate.

Daily Star Online contacted Pornhub to find out if it had any plans to extend the free premium scheme to the UK.
It said: “We are assessing the COVID-19 pandemic daily to determine how else we can support our vast global community, including expanding free access to Pornhub Premium.
“We will keep our community informed of news and changes via Pornhub.com/blog and on social media.”
