A teen charged with fatally stabbing a 24-year-old woman in a Toronto massage parlor was allegedly inspired by the online “incel” community, according to a new terrorism charge against him.
The 17-year-old suspect was initially charged with murder and attempted murder for the Feb. 24 sword attack at an adult massage parlor that left Ashley Noelle Arzaga dead.
The teen on Tuesday became the first person in Canada to be charged with terrorism for an alleged attack linked to the “incel” community.
“Incel” is short for “involuntary celibate,” and promotes the misogynistic idea that men are entitled to have sex with women.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s anti-terrorism unit investigated the “incel” link after they were contacted by police who said they uncovered evidence the teen was inspired by the fringe internet subculture group.
“Terrorism comes in many forms and it’s important to note that it is not restricted to any particular group, religion or ideology,” the RCMP said in a statement.
