MISSOULA, Mont. — Yellowstone National Park reopened this week, and already park workers are reporting a tourist injured by a bison.

Wednesday afternoon, a female visitor was knocked to the ground and injured by a bison in the Old Faithful Upper Geyser Basin after approaching the animal too closely.

Park workers responded immediately to assess the victim, who refused transport to a medical facility.

This is the first incident of a bison injuring a visitor in 2020, and it remains under investigation.

Visitors are reminded bison are wild and should not be approached closer than 25 yards.

Isn't there some famous quote from a park ranger that goes something like "the difficult part of this job is that there's a significant overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bear and the dumbest tourists"
