A former Bastrop High School teacher was arrested last week after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, according to court records.

Hailey Pardy, 25, was arrested by Round Rock police Thursday after she was indicted by a Bastrop County grand jury for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Police say Pardy was 23 years old when, on Dec. 1, 2018, she had sexual intercourse with a male student.

School administrators received an anonymous tip about the relationship on Aug. 20, 2019, about nine months after the incident, and she was placed on paid leave the same day. She was fired by the Bastrop school board on Nov. 1 by a unanimous vote.

The incident was reported to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the Bastrop County sheriff’s office and to the State Board for Educator Certification, as required by law.

Pardy, of Shiner, was hired by the school district on Aug. 9, 2018, and earned an annual salary of $48,383, according to school district documents.

She graduated from Texas State University in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, according to a blurb in the Shiner Gazette. She worked at Bastrop High School as a math teacher.

“The action of this teacher does not represent the more than 1,300 caring, dedicated and talented educators who make up Bastrop ISD,” said district spokesperson Kristi Lee.

“The foundation of the teacher-student relationship is one of trust, and when that trust is violated, it angers and saddens us. It goes against our very purpose, which is to teach children and provide them with opportunities to grow and be successful,” Lee said. “Bastrop ISD does not tolerate those who seek to violate that trust and to abuse their professional responsibility. Our concern was then, and will continue to be, the safety, health and well being of our students.”

Pardy was released from the Bastrop County jail over the weekend after posting $100,000 bail. A court date has not yet been set.

This is the second allegation of improper teacher-student relationships at the school district in the last five years after a 2016 case involving a student teacher, the school district has said.
