FORT PIERCE — A 40-year-old man accused of having drugs in his trousers told Fort Pierce police the pants were not his, according to an affidavit.

The case happened Aug. 5 as police about 10:38 p.m. went to North 14th Street and Edgewood Terrace regarding a fight.

A detective reported two men were fighting, and that one started “fidgeting with his left pants pocket,” the affidavit states.

Police patted down the man, a Fort Pierce resident, and reported finding four bags in his left pants pocket. Police said one bag contained MDMA, and another held suspected marijuana.

MDMA and marijuana are not items you want in your pocket when patted down by police.

The man told investigators he and the other man were wrestling as opposed to fighting.

“(He) then stated the pants he was wearing did not belong to him,” the affidavit states.

He said a “passerby” gave him the trousers, and he knew not what the pockets contained. He did not say that he had ants in his pants.

In general, garments that cover the waist and legs, commonly known as pants, trousers, slacks, britches or pantaloons, are not shared with passersby or anyone else.

Meanwhile, it could be said that the Fort Pierce man with the drugs in his pants was wearing “The Wrong Trousers,” which parenthetically is a 1993 stop-motion animated episode featuring the characters Wallace and Gromit.

The 40-year-old man was jailed on charges of battery and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
