A Queens martial arts teacher was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison for raping a 12-year-old student, officials announced.
Hector Quinchi, 37, pleaded guilty in July to first-degree rape, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges as part of a plea deal.
“This defendant was supposed to teach this youngster how to defend herself, but he was the one from whom she needed protection,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “He manipulated a child too young to consent to sex.”
The victim took lessons taught by Quinchi at Hugo’s Taekwondo studio in Sunnyside, Queens, authorities said.
During a two-month period starting in August 2019, Quinchi had repeated sexual contact with the victim which escalated to sexual intercourse, according to court papers.
The teacher turned himself in after learning that the young girl had reported the abuse to her parents.
