PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence police have confirmed that a man is being held in connection with the “Purge of Providence” Facebook post that had hinted at violence in the city over Halloween weekend.

Police would not tell us what led to Jonah Pierre’s arrest, but acknowledged he is currently in custody and an investigation is ongoing.

Pierre had posted the flyer, which has since been widely circulated in the state, to his Facebook page on October 2, writing above it “I have a meet up location I will drop it when It’s closer to the date.”

The flyer states “Not a peaceful protest,” leading to speculation that a weekend of violence was being planned in the city. The flyers lists Oct. 30 and 31 as the dates, with a “Meet up location and time to be determined.’

Despite the widespread attention the flyer received in the press, and speculation of its intentions on social media, the post was shared only once from Pierre’s account, and received just three “likes.”
