McCormick & Co. is nearing a deal to buy hot-sauce maker Cholula, according to people familiar with the matter, seeking to capitalize on demand for spicy condiments.

The seasonings company is discussing a deal with L Catterton, the private-equity firm that has owned Cholula since 2019, that would value it at around $800 million, the people said.

A deal, resulting from an auction of the business, could come together as soon as Tuesday, assuming the talks don’t fall apart.

McCormick, famous for its red-capped bottled spices and rectangular tins, owns brands including French’s yellow mustard, Old Bay seasoning and Thai Kitchen products.

It already owns another popular hot sauce, Frank’s RedHot, best known for its buffalo-wing sauce, which it acquired in 2017.

McCormick, which is based in Hunt Valley, Md., and has a market value of around $24 billion, sells both to consumers and restaurants.

That's Porky's take. I don't think it's too salty at all. I keep both Cholula and Tapatio sauces in the pantry.

If it helps bring down the price, I'm all for it  I don't see the point of the wooden cap.

I like it for a change up. It's got a smokier flavor to it than the plain Cholula.

Thanks for the info.. I mainly use hot sauce when I am looking to un-bland things.. Like healthy soups and things that have been made healthy because they have stripped all the salt out of them.. A nice pop of hot sauce seems to take the place nicely..

So when they start doing too many sauces that's when I tend to not buy any other than the original..

by the numbers, usually when people do that, the original winds up standing the test of time

I really love the green Chohula, I think it's better than the original. I do that plus Valentina usually on my mexican, good combo.

I use Cholula regularly, but because I need hot sauce to help me with sinus congestion due to allergies. Burning the shit away is easier than taking medication.

I wish I could teach more people to be sickness free like I am, but most people just dont want to put in all the work to get there. While I'm 100% confident of my process, it still would be nice to see someone else achieve it

Porky's insane.

Cholula has 110 mg sodium
Tapatio has 90 mg sodium

20 mg is not nearly enough to register a difference. I don't use salt on anything, and haven't for years, so I can tell when it's there, and I can't taste a salt difference between the two at all.

LOL Its a 22% increase, substantial

:slap:

That's not substantial, it's not even barely noticeable, and I would absolutely notice if it was substantial. Substantial would be 650 mg of sodium, which is what most frozen dinner trays have in them.

Get outta here with yo' ol' pussy-ass tastebuds.

I dont think its necessarily substantial in the grand scheme of things, but I wouldnt count out being able to detect a 20mg/serving difference
