A woman claims she was attacked by a kangaroo in Melbourne over the weekend after it became attracted to something she was wearing - her perfume.

Tracy Noonan told local radio station 3AW on Thursday she was going for a run in the suburb of Beaconsfield on Saturday when the kangaroo began to follow her.

She said it then suddenly knocked her to the ground.

“I just felt a massive thump in the middle of my back,” she told 3AW

“I turned around and it was actually just standing over the top of me.”

Ms Noonan said the kangaroo also scratched her on her back.

She told the station she was able to get up and run away, while throwing rocks at the roo.

After seeking help and shelter at a nearby home, the persistent roo waited outside for 20 minutes.

“I thought ‘Oh my goodness, this kangaroo is going to kill me’.”

A ranger later told Ms Noonan it was likely her Sarah Jessica Parker perfume that attracted the roo to her.

Unable to shake the kangaroo off her scent, she had to be driven home and told 7News she won’t be wearing that perfume anymore.

“It was something out of a movie... where do you think you’d be attacked by a kangaroo,” she told Seven.

“For it to attack me the way it did, it’s pretty horrifying.

It's a good thing she didn't wander under a drop bear.

I'd rather face a drop bear than a bunyip :hand:
