Cyber bullies and online trolls could be slapped with huge fines of up to $110,000 under world-first laws to be introduced by the Federal Government.

The Online Safety Bill will make it illegal to post “seriously harmful content” on websites and social media, such as death threats, revenge porn and comments that intentionally “menace, harass or offend’.’

The proposed laws will also give the government powers to force social media companies to erase harmful content and to hand over the personal details of offenders hiding behind pseudonyms and fake profiles.

You ever look at laws like this and go... maybe we should have a maximum sitting terms or ages for senators? I don't want some 80 year old senator who's 9 year old grandson has to fix his iPad legislating rules on the web. Fuck off

:-k well, I'd rather have someone who can read the existing laws and understand and follow them as they are met with new situations....as opposed to someone younger who....goes by whatever their handler tells them....or whatever their donors tell them...

I dont purport to know aussie law very thoroughly, but I've been consistently surprised at the level of shit they're willing to enact and how forcefully they enact it, how hefty and quickly their fines get hefty...
