A former Calais police officer is accused of selling drugs right out of his cruiser to children.

MDEA paperwork reveals last Monday 53-year-old Jeffrey Bishop, Cherryfield, drove to Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School in Harrington and gave a student hydrocodone and fentanyl.

Drug agents say they found 110 matching hydrocodone pills from Bishop's "police duty" bag in his home.

Prosecutors say he was trading drugs for things besides cash.

“This investigation revealed that he had been exchanging hydrocodone pills with the state’s witness for sexual favor,” State Assistant Attorney General John Risler said.

“I don’t see him as a flight risk,” Jeffrey Toothaker, Bishop’s attorney, said. “In fact, it seems that he’s probably going to have to go home and rethink his life.”

According to the Bangor Daily News, Bishop was arrested on Friday in the parking lot of Narraguagus High School, six days after his resignation became effective.

The BDN reports Bishop went to work for the department part time in May 2019 and became full time the following September.

Bishop was charged with four counts of aggravated furnishing of schedule drugs (hydrocodone & fentanyl) and one count of unlawful trafficking in schedule W drugs.

The charges are aggravated because Bishop allegedly gave drugs to a minor and within 1,000 feet of a school.

Bishop was taken to the Aroostook County Jail where his bail was set at $50,000 cash.
