MARQUETTE, MI -- A 32-year-old Marquette man is facing life in prison after he allegedly broke into a home and assaulted a man last month, before being stabbed by the resident if the home. The Marquette Police Department alleges Alexander Chapoton broke into a residence on Feb. 28 around 4:04 a.m. and assaulted a man who lives there.

During the fight, Chapoton struck the man with to frying pans causing injuries. However, the victim stabbed Chapoton during the fight, stopping the attack. When police and emergency workers arrived, both men were injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both men have since recovered and were released from the hospital.

Police say the two men knew each other prior to the alleged assault.

Chapoton was arrested last week by police on charges reviewed by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office and approved by the 96th District Court. Those charges include one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of first degree home invasion and two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.

The assault with intent to murder charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Chapoton has yet to be arraigned on those charges and is currently being held at the Marquette County Jail. Bond was set at $500,000 Cash or Surety.
