It might not seem like there’s a speed limit on Highway 401 at times.

But there definitely is, and it’s well below the 186 km/h a 33-year-old driver from Toronto area was travelling when he blew by a couple of Ontario Provincial Police officers on Saturday morning near Gananoque.

“There is no speed limit on the 401,” the driver complained when police finally caught up to him.

The officers told the driver the limit was 100 km/h as they wrote out a stunt-driving ticket, impounded the vehicle for seven days and suspended the driver’s licence.

Speed limits on the major highways in Canada range from 90-120kph (75mph). If you're caught doing 40 over the limit, it's considered 'excessive speeding' and you might get your car impounded and a fat ticket. Had it happen to a couple of friends because doing 130k in a 90 zone isn't that hard to do especially on some of the open stretches  Usually cops here give a little leeway, but 186 in a 100 zone will almost definitely get you impounded.

Georgia's 'Super Speeder Law' defines a Super Speeder as a driver convicted of speeding at 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or at 85 mph and above on any road or highway in the State of Georgia.

There's a stretch of I-75 between Macon and Atlanta where the speed limit doesn't exist. It's posted, but nobody ever follows it. When I was driving up to GA Tech and I hit that stretch, I would get passed by nearly everybody and I was still doing 95 mph. I just couldn't bring myself to go any faster. As many times as I drove that area, I never saw anyone get pulled over, ever.

I 45 from Houston to Dallas is like that. Posted speed (mostly) is 75mph. If you're not doing at least 90, you're likely to get ran over.

max posted in ct is 65, but the state cops wont even bother if you're doing 80
