A GENEROUS salon boss is giving his entire staff the Monday off when pubs reopen in Scotland so they can enjoy a full day of drinks.

Sovereign Grooming reopened last week for the first time in over three months after lockdown restrictions were eased for hairdressers.

But managing director Kyle Ross has already pencilled in an extra day off for his workforce on April 26 so they can "support local hospitality" at beer gardens.

The barber's Aberdeen salon will close its doors for the day to allow the Granite City team to support “lifeblood” food and drink businesses on Union Street.

And the official opening of the firm's flagship New Waverley salon in Edinburgh will be delayed by 24 hours to give staff the chance to support nearby bars and restaurants.

Kyle said recent closures on the high street, John Lewis in particular, highlighted the importance of businesses standing together this spring.

“Our city centres are a business eco-system, and when one sector suffers, it has a knock-on effect for everyone,” he said.

“That eco-system has been on a knife-edge at various points over the past year and we feel it’s more important than ever to pull together and help our city centres recover.

"We employ 18 people, so in the grand scheme of things this is a very small gesture. However, we feel it is important to send a message of support and solidarity, and to do our bit to support Scotland's city centres."

Kyle added: "With a 10pm curfew, we’re confident our teams will all be tucked up in bed early and ready for a busy day on the 27th."

Ten new jobs are being created with the opening of Sovereign Grooming Edinburgh, which had been due to open in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town on April 26 following a six-figure investment during lockdown.

The salon will now open on the 27th.

A third Sovereign Grooming salon will open in Glasgow city centre later this year.

Last month, Nicola Sturgeon said that under provisional plans - not yet confirmed - beer gardens should be able to open until 10pm with alcohol permitted from April 26.

Indoor hospitality has been pencilled in until 8pm from April 26 - but alcohol will not be allowed, and groups will be limited to four people from two households.

Venues in Scotland should be able to open indoors for alcohol from May 17, until 10.30pm, but with strict time slots and table service. No date has been pencilled in yet for relaxing all curbs.

Is your boss gonna give all you guys the day off? :-k

I know I would never get a day off like that, if I try and leave 10 minutes early and my boss is here in the shop, he'll be all, "where are you going?" :-s
