A Reading, Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sex trafficking two teen girls into prostitution and controlling them with drugs.

According to NBC affiliate WJAC, Pennsylvania resident Melissa Madera, 27, was sentenced this week after pleading guilty last year to numerous sex trafficking crimes.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer A. Williams says Madera will serve 15 years in prison and will remain on supervised parole for the rest of her life.

“The crimes committed by this defendant will physically and psychologically impact her victims for years to come,” Williams said.

“Madera advertised these children like objects and plied them with drugs so she’d be more easily able to control them. Her behavior is horrifying, and she deserves every single day of that prison sentence,” Williams said of the Pennsylvania woman sentenced for sex trafficking.

Authorities have said the victims were two girls aged 15 and 17, The Daily Voice reported.

Madera also obtained an explicit photo of one of the girls and used it to advertise sexual services.

The girls were controlled via Madera plying them with addictive drugs like cocaine and ecstasy.

The Pennsylvania woman sentenced for sex trafficking would bring the girls to county motels where she would rent two rooms: one for the girls to be abused by buyers, who paid $200 an hour, and another room for herself, officials said.

The 15-year-old’s mother reported her missing to Reading police in October 2017.

This prompted Madera to repeatedly beat the teen while telling her “this is what you get for being a rat,” Williams said.

The Patriot-News reported Madera pleaded guilty to charges of sex trafficking and child pornography in September of 2020.

“Predators come in many different forms,” Michael J. Driscoll, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division said previously before the Pennsylvania woman was sentenced for sex trafficking.

“Make no mistake, Melissa Madera fits that bill. She has now admitted to selling minors for sex, drugging them to maintain control of their minds and bodies. Such despicable treatment does serious lasting harm. The FBI is committed to finding and freeing trafficking victims and holding their tormentors accountable.”

According to Fox affiliate WTXF in Philadelphia, she will be under lifetime supervised release following her sentence.

It was not immediately clear if Madera had an attorney available to comment on the sentence.

Human trafficking should be an automatic death penalty
