Cheyenne, Wyoming resident Wyatt Dean Lamb is currently in custody on charges he murdered a toddler boy with a blowtorch, then dumped the child’s remains in the trash.

According to The Daily Beast, Wyoming’s Wyatt Dean Lamb has remained in custody since he was arrested in February on separate charges.

Laramie County District Attorney prosecutors announced the charges against the man late Monday, four months after 2-year-old Athian Rivera’s body was found wrapped in a sheet and stuffed in garbage bags.

Authorities allege the boy was essentially tortured to death by Lamb, who allegedly employed tools like a blowtorch to severely burn Athian’s body.

Wyoming officials say the boy’s cause of death was ruled as “cerebral edema with herniation, caused either by blunt force trauma so severe it caused brain swelling, or restricted oxygen,” the Beast writes.

Witnesses reported to Wyoming police that Wyatt Dean Lamb behaved oddly after the boy was reported missing.

The suspect was the first to report the boy missing to the child’s mother, Kassandra Orona.

The woman later told investigators that she had Lamb watch her kids while she was working a late shift, and that had prevented her from seeing her child around 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 19 — the approximate time of death.

According to the Associated Press, Wyatt Dean Lamb apparently misled Wyoming police about his exact whereabouts during the child’s time of death.

Lamb told police that he had taken a taxi home after Orona got home early that morning from her shift and then returned by taxi later that morning to find Athian missing.

Taxi companies contacted by authorities said they had no record of a trip made with the man on February 19.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported that the suspect had been ordered held without bond in connection to the case in a previous hearing. He is now currently in custody on $1 million bond.

Wyatt Dean Lamb had been previously accused of strangling Orona in Wyoming last year.

He was arrested in February after authorities determined he had violated bond conditions by living in Orona’s home and missing a hearing.

Lamb’s attorney did not respond to the AP’s requests for comment in the case this week.

MEAWW noted he has been charged with first-degree murder and faces a possible death sentence if convicted.
