A west Georgia man has died after he was injured while he and friends were shooting fireworks.

Trevor White died early Sunday after an injury in Tallapoosa. He was 23.

“The victim was holding the launch tube over his head when this tragic accident occurred,” stated Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King.

White and friends gathered late Saturday afternoon at a home on Stone Mountain Street to shoot fireworks, according to Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams.

A shell that fired from a tube hit White in the torso and he suffered what officials described as massive trauma.

Haralson County Coroner Patty Hutcheson says White was taken to a hospital in Bremen where he died early July 4.

Tallapoosa police and the state fire marshal’s office are investigating.

According to the funeral home, White leaves behind a fiancé and two young daughters.

Fireworks? Yes. I'm gonna guess it was one of the more powerful tube launched bombers. Lost, think of a mini mortar. You'd think it would have fallen out if he held it upside down..
Something like the picture.

In Canada they've banned 'firecrackers' for years but you can buy fireworks in most cities at Halloween and New Years (though even that seems to be getting cracked down on slowly).

I'm not really sure exactly how they drew the line, but all the fun handheld stuff teenagers want like bottle rockets and M80's have always been illegal up here forever. You can still get roman candles and screecheroos (which you could stomp and turn into m80's basically) and plenty of other bigger fireworks though.

Growing up, the black market for illegally imported US fireworks was hotter than weed

Mid "70"s McChord AFB Tacoma Wa. where exploding fireworks were illegal.
Dad was military police and became convinced I was dealing drugs so confronted me with threats of bringing in the dogs to search my room.
I gave up my stash of Blackcat firecrackers and bottle rockets that I had accumulated during our summer vacation through the Blackhills.
He was greatly relieved about there not being drugs but I was out my income from bootlegged fireworks. :meh:

I remember the tiny little rockets on sticks in the 70s. They were far too much fun not to ban in the 80s :)

Every state is different. Here in Ohio, for years it was legal to purchase them but not to set them off. I think you even signed waivers saying that you would take them out of state. Not sure if they changed that or not.
