The cost blowouts were expected, given the new technologies. Do you think it will be worth it in the long run?

Dunno. What's the actual cost of the new technologies in materials and labor? Now what's the percentage increase for profitability beyond those costs? Find that out for each new technology and every other technology on that ship and maybe we'd find out. I'm of the belief that anything built under a government contract is probably over-priced to get as much money out of the government as the manufacturer(s) can. It's the same premise with medical supply companies and insurance companies. Jack up the price as much as they can, and see what they can get out of the customer, what the customer will agree to. I might be wrong about it when it comes to military tech, but I doubt it. That's basically how business works.

The real question is, with all these new technologies, will it help us win a war? Will it help us maintain naval dominance on the seven seas? Is China shitting their pants knowing this thing exists, it belongs to us and not them, and is close to deployment? If so, maybe it is worth it.

I was impressed by the new technologies. Pretty fascinating and amazing. My feeling is it if that can all be done more cheaply for the subsequent versions of this fleet then it might be worth the price. But whoever designed that toilet needs a good talking to...


One thing for sure. It will probably never be involved in an actual war, like most military equipment nowadays.

All good questions. It really remains to be seen. Modern navies with ACC's haven't gone head-to-head against one another yet. Will they end up being the Battleship in WWII and prove themselves overpriced and obsolete if they can be sunk by next gen missiles or maybe drone swarms? I sort of doubt it, but it's possible. Either way, until then they're a huge projection of force.

A single ACC hosts a more powerful air force than most individual countries in the world, and that's not even mentioning that these things don't travel and work alone either.
