#ArrestFauci trends on Twitter as doctor faces criticism for controversial virus research, testing on dogs

The phrase #ArrestFauci was trending on Twitter Sunday afternoon in response to multiple controversies surrounding Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Twitter users posted the hashtag calling out Fauci over reports that hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars were used to subject dogs to cruel testing before ultimately killing them.

Additionally, Fauci has been criticized after an NIH official appeared to confirm that taxpayers funded gain of function research on the coronavirus at a lab in Wuhan, China despite Fauci’s repeated claims that was not the case.

In July, Republican Sen. Rand Paul called for the Department of Justice to issue a criminal referral against Fauci for lying to Congress about gain of function research funded by the NIH.

"I will be sending a letter to Department of Justice asking for a criminal referral because he has lied to Congress. We have scientists that were lined up by the dozens to say that the research he was funding was gain-of-function," the Kentucky Republican told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"He's doing this because he has a self interest to cover his tracks and to cover his connection to Wuhan lab," Paul continued.

Fauci's NIH told Fox News this week that Fauci has been "entirely truthful" during his testimony on gain of function research.

It's really early, so I'm gonna reserve my standard "Are you on drugs?" response to you for later on when I've had the time to clear the cobwebs out of my consciousness.

I've seen some political hit jobs on individuals over the years, both on the left and the right. None of them is more vicious and more fabricated and less deserved than this attack on Fauci. It's pure fantasy.

I could spend freaking days here pulling up and explaining in great detail all the accusations against him, but it wouldn't make an iota a difference.

It's not even your fault, it's just interesting to watch how the Republican party and the right wing media are attempting to tear down educational institutions and foster a mistrust of authority and expertise.

Now, some of it is justified. And the left is hardly any better. But this one is pure fabrication.

You should always mistrust authority. Keep them on their toes so they do right by the people.

And no, it's not pure fabrication. 'Fauci the scientist' has long been replaced by 'Fauci the politician'. And he lied under oath, as has been proven beyond the shadow of a reasonable doubt now.

The Republican Party are currently fighting the education system because the education system has been taken over by leftists/Socialists/Communists, and they are indoctrinating our children into believing unAmerican principles. They are trying to create a generation that will destroy this nation from within.

Sticking to Fauci..I mean no disrespect but technical terms in research, medicine & psychology often mean a different thing than their lay meaning. Again I could try and offer a different side of the story, but it will make absolutely no difference. You're sold on Rand Paul and that's that.

I can only reassure you that Fauci, while not perfect, is an extremely intelligent and extremely capable physician, research scientist and now, public servant who has served your country for decades. We are talking back to the Reagan era. You should take off your hashtag blinkers and check out his resume some time.

I have. He's pretty impressive on paper, but none of that matters now. He's a politician. He's been in the game too long, and he's buying his own press. Paul is right to go after him.

Well let's see what happens. I've seen nothing about it of substance so far. These type of witch hunts create doubt within and about the medical fraternity, which is having a really negative effect on your country.
