Watch a couple episodes of Black Mirror.... that show is fucking me up!

Sort of spoiler alert (just the rough plot)

I watched one where a grieving widow used an emerging AI tech that 'recreates' a person you loved using all of their social media info, videos, emails, photos then you can call and talk to them (and it gets weirder). That one was weird

Another one was an ep where everyone now wears memory chips to record and rewatch every moment of their lives, and share it on a TV, with everyone. It drives one guy down a dark rabbit hole.

Great show. I'd recommend it, and it's nice because it's not a series you have to watch in any order.

I never watched a full episode. Was always amazed what Bob could do with just a palette knife.

Reading his Wiki, he sounded like a super cool guy with all aspects of his show. Minimalist set, usually wore jeans and a tshirt so the episodes would be 'timeless'.

"Ross painted three versions of almost every painting featured on his show. The first was painted prior to taping, and sat on an easel, off-camera, during filming, where Ross used it as a reference to create the second copy—the one viewers actually watched him paint. After filming the episode, Ross painted a third, more detailed version for inclusion in his instructional books."

It's a great series. My only complaint is the way they structured it from the start. If you watch season one, episode one National Anthem, you'll know why

That episode doesn't really reflect what the majority of Black Mirror is all about and turned a lot of people away from the series.

There are so many good episodes in that series.. My wife and I could not binge it.. It was too intense.. We would watch one and talk about it for the next few days and then watch another so as not to spoil the effects of each scenario. I would recommend going in order though because sometimes technology shows up in later episodes that they had previously explained the implications of in previous episodes.

Well speaking for critics of the episode, some felt it was not close enough to the true sci-fi background and nature of the series.

I would argue that because I feel Black Mirror episodes speak about the sociopolitical problems of society, just as much as the technical or sci-fi aspects of our lives.

I've completed the first 3 episodes and I've watched about half of episode 4 and so far here are some of my complaints:

A) This is supposed to be a prequel? That takes place roughly only 10 years before TOS? Absolutely EVERYTHING in this series looks far more advanced than anything in the original series or in TNG even. It's ridiculous. I understand special effects and budgets have come a long way, but at least make it look like a prequel or on par with what a starship looked like in TOS. I mean even the uniforms look nothing like TOS.
B) The character of Michael Burnham. :| I could go on and on and on about what is wrong with this person.
C) The Vulcans are now suddenly a 'shoot first and ask questions later' race? When did that happen because that's not cannon in ANY other Trek series.
D) The Klingons look abso-fucking-lutely ridiculous. Again, they look humanoid in TOS, at least keep some continuity if you are going to be a prequel.
E) There are aliens galore in the crew of Star Fleet? :-s In TOS, the ONLY non-humans onboard a starship crew were Vulcans.
F) I'm stopping here because I could keep going and I'm not even 4 full episodes in

Oh myyy, where to start

1. Burnham is/will be held responsible for the deaths of over 8000 Federation people.
2. Burnham disobeyed her captain/friend and fought with her. Mutiny and assault with intent to cause bodily harm.
3. (mild spoiler, but obvious progression) Burnham will get back on a ship and assume an officer's position once again.
4. Did I mention she is the biggest mass murderer in history and mutinied against a federation Captain?

5. The Klingons look like nuclear mutants in day glo disco outfits. The multi tribe idea is cool, but...

The differences in the look and tech design are almost unavoidable. If you're a person who hates non-canonical ideas, you are going to blow a gasket with this series
There's a certain type of tech coming up I think in episode 4 or 5, that will challenge everything from past Star Trek series.

1) Yeah, already past where Burnham started the war with the Klingons and mutinied and got her captain killed and convicted of the crimes
2) And now she's a crewman onboard the Discovery? Ohhhhh....it's because Star Fleet gave the Captain of the Discovery 'lattitude', that makes perfect sense  :|
3) Things like using the transporter to go from one area of the ship to the other? By bypassing the transporter room completely? Even Scotty in the TOS said that was something completely dangerous yet they have done it a few times now on Discovery like it's no big deal

I know the difference in design is unavoidable because of the difference in effects and whatnot, but at least make an effort to keep some kind of continuity in design seeing how you are supposed to be a prequel that happens only 10 years prior to TOS. Don't make it look completely futuristic FFS

And 'black alert'? Really? :shakehead:

Wait until you get to the Klingon Lives Matter part

Manhunt: Unabomber episode 1 & 2 - seems very good so far. I'm too young to remember the unabomber but I'm already hooked.

True story: I have an uncle on my mother's side of the family that is a little on the weird side. He doesn't really subscribe to the whole normal American life thing. He's a bit of a conspiracy nut, but is more apt to join a hardcore religious group and go door to door, handing out pamphlets and preaching the end of the world than to actually attack someone. He can be a really good guy, though. He visited me at the hospital at least once every two or three weeks back when I got paralyzed in '92. Anyway, for some strange reason, he was on the fed's radar back in the 90s, and he was actually a suspect in the Unabomber case before the feds zeroed in on Ted Kaczynski. The feds actually went to see my aunt, my uncle had his stuff mailed to her address because he was a bit of a drifter, and questioned her for two hours until he randomly showed up like he usually did to get his mail and then they took him in for questioning in the Unabomber case and let him go.

I watched an episode of 'Ugly Delicious' on Dee's referral. I did like the show but was a little put off by the host Peter Chang's excessive use of the word "fuck", "fucking", and "mother fucking" throughout the entire show. I know on their poster it says "food is a four letter word". But still, his cussing cheapens the moment for me and makes the whole thing lowbrow..
