I'm not even watching it anymore. I'm kind of :meh: on the whole zombie genre now.

They're into 'helping' people this season and it's kind of hilarious considering they can barely survive themselves.

Without much of a spoiler, Dwight showed up from TWD proper and the first 45 minutes with him stretched the bounds of belief right away.

I don't like the actor or his character to begin with so there's that too.

Oh and almost forgot. Recent episode featured zombies irradiated from a nearby nuclear power plant (wonder where that idea came from..) and one woman who worked there, somehow trying to save them all.

:-k Undead zombies...irradiated...needing saving ....

The premise made so little sense they didn't say a word about it in the following episode. My bad for the spoilers...

Wife and I both like it. I think it's better now that season 3 is a Netflix season (they picked it up after ABC canceled it). Yeah, that side plot is dumb, but it only goes on through the first season and it's not important really to the show as a whole.

Should get this out of the way right now. The rest of the world loved seasons 1 and 2, I wasn't enthralled with it.

I thought most of the kids overacted to the point of screaming (except Will Byers and Eleven were great) and they could have given way more nods to things from the 80's.

I was a teen during this time and they missed soooo many cultural opportunities. At least in season 3 they're using more songs from the time.

I'm about ready to stop watching this. The past few episodes have jumped so far over the shark, the shark is laughing.

They can use a hot air balloon to 'rescue' Lucia but need a plane to ....rescue Lucia.

Hot air balloon needs hot air/method to inflate that requires power.

Who is a plane mechanic and where do they get all this aviation fuel for flights?

Weren't they all together as a group near the beginning talking to the kids? Looked like the Avengers in that one shot. Then what happened?

Dwight's whole story. John decides not to tell him about the only firm piece of evidence that could be real important moving forward?

Those kids. Yes they need help building a plane but how does using people trying to sabotage you at every turn help?

The zombie structures made of moving zombies by using their entrails. Is it just me or does that sound like a really dangerous, complex process to rope them all up like that? And the kids did it?

The entire premise of this season is - We must help other people. They must have said that word 100 times within five episodes. They haven't helped one person and keep getting into dangerous situations. The only character that comes close to being accurate is Salazer who lives in a protected area where no one can get his shit!

This show is just a hat with ideas in it that they pull from every week.

Don't forget that the dangerous levels of radiation don't come on the other side of the barriers that Grace put up. That's very convenient. Pretty sure that with that proximity to a nuclear power plant that has suffered one core meltdown, the whole freaking area would be irradiated.

Not sure why John didn't tell Dwight about the last letter...to keep Dwight filled with hope? False hope that will crush him even more when he finds out the truth?

Yeah, me and the wife were both mentioning how could it even be possible to salvage that plane and put it back together? How do they know they even got all the parts? Wreckage is usually scattered over a huge distance. And did Al moonlight at Boeing? And you're right, aviation fuel would be even harder to find than regular gasoline is at this point.

When I saw Strand at the end, I knew he was on that stupid balloon before the reveal and I was completely :derp:

And agreed, there's no way that kids could have done that intricate zombie roadblock thing, that's just stupid.

And really? That little back-up generator is going to generate enough power to run one core of the nuclear power plant?

Yeah, not even sure why she was introduced, other than to maybe push the idea that the radiation is really important to theplot....until it isn't.

And yes, it's definitely hard trying to keep this whole mess of a plot straight.

And back to the planes...wasn't the one that they are taking the props from a small 1 or 2 person plane and the one they are trying to fix a larger cargo type plane? Why do I think that those props wouldn't be interchangeable?

Yeah, not even sure why she was introduced, other than to maybe push the idea that the radiation is really important to theplot....until it isn't.

And yes, it's definitely hard trying to keep this whole mess of a plot straight.

And back to the planes...wasn't the one that they are taking the props from a small 1 or 2 person plane and the one they are trying to fix a larger cargo type plane? Why do I think that those props wouldn't be interchangeable?

Ya had to bring up the props!

Now I'm not watching for sure

Another Life - (Katee Sackhoff's new sci-fi space travel show)

Well Starbuck is in the best physical shape of her life, still got those East German swimmer shoulders though. And finally her odd facial looks are starting to catch up with her. The show spends a fair amount of time looking at her while she flexes and makes that bug eyed duckface of intensity

The show itself veered into the land of stupid real quick...a 'bridge' with a bunch of large screens and two keyboards jutting out from the walls, no chairs, no individual work stations. It was funny when the ship ran into some turbulence. Everyone falling over stuff wondering where the chairs and seatbelts are. A cast of young good looking people including a trans person of course..

Starbuck has a 3D holographic computer assistant who takes the shape of someone based specifically on her likes, dislikes, intelligence, emotions. Yet in the next scene they're in the engine room and they are literally working on pipes that have valves with round gauges on them, like in a WW2 ship

Things like that will crater this show. Too bad, there's hints of good ideas similar to the movie Arrival.

Gotta love when Hollywood tries to teach you a lesson.

It used to be a funny, edgy comedy. Then around season 4 they tried to teach that women prisoners are people too and how dare we treat them badly in the penal system.

Which I agree with to a point. They should not get raped by male guards and deserve (I guess) three decent meals per day.

The whole part they often hide is ...the characters on the show are felons. Some of them have murdered people. They deserve to be in jail, not summer camp.

Every single male on the show from the warden to a councilor to every guard is portrayed as evil and wrong and part of the problem, no matter how kind they are trying to help the women prisoners.

Sorry for the rant Muddster but the chick the show is based on is Piper Kerman. She was popped for laundering money while she helped sell thousands of dollars of high end drugs. She was treated fine in 'prison' and has never worked a day in her life. She served 13 months in a low security women's prison and then wrote a book. Set for life.

So basically, it's Breaking Bad with black people.

It's similar and the guy is intelligent business wise, isn't a druggie and is making millions from crack. I'm not sure how close it is to the truth in terms of origin stories.

I read there was a guy like him who found out the recipe and of course in the early 80's coke was a license to print money in the white world

Unfortunately crack was so cheap it became available for poorer black folks and the show doesn't sugar coat it. Right away they show people getting screwed up from it, giving bj's etc.

Great side story about the white DEA guy going down to central America and getting coke to sell.

Non spoiler description from a recent Another Life episode:

In one scene Starbuck and another crew member (hot chick #2) are in the engine room repairing things. There are pipes, steam, valves and round analog gauges. One of them is tightening a bolt with a wrench and the other is pretending to do the same on a boiler-looking thing.

Cut to two other crewmates repairing things in another room. The room looks like it's from a different show with all LDC screens, futuristic panels and lighting throughout. They both have little doors open and are repairing circuits or the insides of a PC.

Keep in mind this a show set far enough into the future they make a reference to someone famous from the '20th century.' Yet within two minutes we go from an old steamship to Space 2297

They're moving the camera around like BSG and I think they're trying to go for a similar organic old school feel. A couple of horrible deaths which is jarring because the show seems so fake up to those moments and Starbuck dropping the F-bomb every 5 minutes makes it weirder still

It's an absurd amount of US shows that are filmed in Canada. Unless they are shows that need to be filmed 'on location' in a place like LA or NYC, they film them in Canada, and a shit ton of them are all filmed in BC. You guys give way more incentives to the production companies than the states do down here.

Yeah I can almost recognize when they use our places for night scenes etc

The one I always remember is the movie Silver Streak with Gene Wilder. Supposed to be a movie set on a US train starting in Chicago I think. One long shot of the train traveling through some picturesque countryside and they said - We're just going past Kansas City. I see my city's skyline complete with the Calgary Tower

One long shot of the train traveling through some picturesque countryside and they said - We're just going past Kansas City. I see my city's skyline complete with the Calgary Tower

no CGI cleanup in those days.

It's the same way when I'm watching a show on TV and they are supposedly in 'Denver'. Bitch, I live here, I know that's not fucking Denver or anywhere near the whole state of Colorado.

Do you remember years ago I said that every mystery show seemed to have episodes in Colorado? Like one out of three....you said BS but I recall almost every episodic TV show from X-Files to Supernatural having handfuls of eps in Colorado.

Besides your satanic airport and secret undergroud bunkers in the mountains, why is Colorado always a place where shitfests start?

It's an absurd amount of US shows that are filmed in Canada. Unless they are shows that need to be filmed 'on location' in a place like LA or NYC, they film them in Canada, and a shit ton of them are all filmed in BC. You guys give way more incentives to the production companies than the states do down here.

Ya, that and the Canadian dollar being so weak. For a few years there it was on par with the US dollar and the BC film industry ('Hollywood North' as they call it) took a HUGE hit. It's booming again now though. I'd wager 75% of ads I see on TV that have cities in the background are in Vancouver, and a good chunk of TV too (especially the lower budget cable shows).

Right down the street from my house there's this weird old 2-story fully concrete building with no windows. It was some sort of bank-related building that now has no tenant and is slated to be re-developed someday, so there's filming there probably every other week. They have to give us film notices on our doors by law. They've filmed a few of those Marvel-based TV shows, Arrow, X-Files, a movie or two. They filmed a X-Files scene there a year or so ago where there was a big car crash on the round-about right outside my door. They rammed two cars into each-other right over the round-about at a pretty good speed which was cool to see. Another time they filmed a riot scene at night which was pretty crazy. There was even a paparazzi who stood on our patio (we're street level) to take shots of Gillian Anderson  Cool guy, told me there only about 2-3 pap in the city so it's good work (despite my feelings that they're scumbags).

I decided to re-watch it. I watched it initially as it was on TV, so its been awhile. I figured before I get back into Better Call Saul, I would refresh :)

Breaking Bad is one of the very few drama shows I've watched all the way through twice. So worth re-watching.

Just noticed that everyone but Starbuck on this cast is under 30. Probably under 25.

I won't make it through the whole season

:-k How to explain without spoilers...

The premise is good but the execution is horrible. Acting, sets, production values...all shit

They're on a ship and have a shuttlecraft-like vehicle. It goes down to some place and returns. On the return take off I swear it was like a show using an old model on strings bouncing around everywhere...and it was CGI

Katee Sackhoff is way too intense (imagine Starbuck turnt up to 11) in every scene and it's distracting.

I try to give new shows at least half of the season to find their groove because most don't really establish the cast and ideas until season two.

And oh yeah, I'm four episodes in and there's no exposition in terms of the cast. No background, no flashbacks, no stories ...no names

As I watch I think - there's hot girl number 2 with a temper, she's good at ? and her job is ??
