I liked it. I just found it confusing. Mind you I don't know much about the original - so I can't even compare what's changed...what works and what doesn't..

You're missing a big piece of the puzzle then. This is supposed to be a sequel to the original comic book series/graphic novel series (although it's not an adaptation of the sequel comic book series that is still being published today). Watchmen was a graphic novel series published back in the 80s. They finally made a movie out of it in 2009. The movie changed some stuff from the comic book (most notably a giant interdimensional squid in the middle of NYC) but it's pretty faithful to the majority of the comic book. I would advise you to go watch the Ultimate Cut of the film if you can find it, then find a source to note the differences between the film and the original comic book. This series is a sequel to the original comic book, but the movie's a good place to start. They'e referencing a metric tom of shit from the original comic book in the series here. There's a lot of painfully obvious and blatant references to Dr. Manhattan, who according to the first episode, is on Mars. The 7th Calvary worships Rorschach, who was a character that died at the end of the original comic book/movie. There's a lot of references to the Nite Owl/Nite Owl II, a hero from the original. Jeremy Irons is playing Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias. Jean Smart is playing Laurie Blake (the Silk Spectre II from the original comics where she was younger, now called the Comedienne, and if you watch the movie or read the comic book, then you'll understand where she got her new alias). There's a metric ton of stuff. Hooded Justice came from the original. Tales of the Black Freighter is being referenced every time you see something regarding pirates. The watches. The play Veidt put on with his cloned servants is the story of how Dr. Manhattan came to be.

Creepshow - this one was kinda stupid. They can do better. It was by far the weakest episode, but it still wasn't awful. I'm guessing they wanted it to be WAY over the top and harken back to the bad horror movies of the 70's and 80's the way this episode was filmed.

And the monster in Lake Champlain is just Champ, not Champi FFS :x

You watch Curse of Oak Island Too? Watcha think so far?

Been watching it since day 1

With every season that goes by, they definitely throw more and more money at it, and I think it's paying off. Between last season and this season so far, they've made some really good progress. I'm thinking if they do keep it up, they are going to solve it sooner rather than later now. There is definitely something up with the island, whether it's treasure or not, but there's just too many weird things there for it to be absolutely nothing.

Yea we got hooked too and totally agree something definitely happened there. The whole story and history is just so damn intriguing. The season is starting out a little slow though but from the previews it looks like they make some big pushes forward.

Oops sorry.. No, I didn't think was bad at all.. They had a menu that was like 10 pages.. Chicken, prime rib, crabs, oysters, free buns brought to the table, anything you could think of... And Sunday.. Oh boy.. They had this buffet I used to call the 'Soulfood Sunday" Buffet. Greens, mac and cheese, fried fish, clams, Quail (yes quail on a buffet) 3 or 4 soups... It was the bomb.. You could always go to Lowerys and make everyone happy.. Now? With this 5 or 6 item menu? I'm not really interested.. :) Did it need a renovation? Absolutely.. Did they need Gordon Ramsey to scrap the menu? Hell no.. Keep that 5 or 6 dish split chicken flambe shit up in an area that can handle a specialty restaurant.. Tappahannock needs it's chicken fried steak and gravy, baby..!!

You have to wonder how much of that is real though.. I never had any food come out that in any way looked compromised.. And the oysters Ramsay poured out and said they looked disgusting? Guess what Gordon, Oysters come packed in their out "liquor" and it resembles a jar of snot.. That's why I think a lot on that show is embellished.. We do have a Virginia Department of Health here that makes random pop inspections and they will shut you down if shits over the top.

I think it's just a ploy for the Lowery family to sell the place.. This show happened about 6 months after a failed sale attempt. They tried to dump the place for about 600k and couldn't move it.

Science fiction involves fiction which requires imagination. Not everything has to be scientifically based, or at least not based on our science. How do you know technologically superior aliens couldn't come up with something like the protomolecule? In fact, according to the books, that's the exact assumption. Ancient extinct aliens left behind the protomolecule that they discovered out on Phoebe. For what purpose? You will find out later.

Stop thinking that everything has to revolve around our science or our reality. Allow fiction to be fiction.

I thought it was brilliant  Hardly a superhero series. Dark and twisted. My thought 2/3rds of the way through was it's a cross between a BBC art-house and the series LOST. And lo and behold same writer and co-producer as LOST.

Glad there won't be a Series 2. No way they can keep that quality up.

The SJW wasn't bad. Moral of that story - twisted revenge doesn't pay.

If you like the idea of a high-brow absurdist version of Lost it might be your cuppa, but I doubt it's for anyone here - too close to the bone. ( Maybe Hal would have liked it).

I don't know. Maybe. Chuck was talking about how he was showing Sam memories of themselves in other worlds, so maybe the whole time forward vision could have been another memory. Either way, it doesn't matter, they lost their chance with this plan. They have to come up with something else now.

I'm wondering what's going on with Jack. Is Death/Billie going to make Jack a replacement for Chuck?

Just catching up with this. That's fine, but I guess I did indeed anticipate it as a show that was a realistic depiction of what the solar system might be like in a couple hundred years. All the shows and movies spiral out into something more ...fictional/fantasy. I have a physics background (before psychology) so I can spot the inconsistencies pretty easily. I don't mind the fantasy stuff but it stimulates a different part of my brain.

What excites me more than anything is the concept of an engine that can keep up 1G acceleration long term.

Is it back to the Star Trek roots of being an adventure series, or is it just more of this modern trend of super-hero save the world from impending doom shit? Maybe I'm crazy but I loved the more episodic style of the older Star Trek series that were about exploration and science and the occasional major saga... not always a big evil threat about to destroy the whole fucking galaxy.

Me too for sure. I really think they came into their own in season 2. They still had a bit of the comedy, but damn there were some good and real sci-fi story lines in it. Stuff you didn't have to go  like you did every 5 minutes in Discovery. You can tell that although he's mostly know for comedy, that Seth Macfarlane is really a fan of sci-fi and Star Trek. It's based off of a comic series written by Joe Hill (aka Joe Hillstrom King... Stephen King's son), and he makes a cameo appearance in the final episode as a paramedic, so that was kinda fun.
