MISSOULA, Mont. — Mineral County Sheriff Mike Toth confirms one man is dead after he jumped off a bridge on Interstate 90 to avoid being hit by a semitruck Monday morning.
Toth says the Baltimore man stopped his vehicle on the bridge around mile marker 47 near Superior to check on another driver, who was uninjured.
As a semitruck approached, he tried to get the truck to slow down. When the truck didn't slow down, the man jumped off the bridge.
He fell 60 to 80 feet, landing on the edge of the Clark Fork River.
Toth said it was dark outside during the time of the incident and the man likely did not know it was an 80-foot drop off the bridge.
