While her husband was being arrested for DWI early Sunday morning, a Wauzeka woman drove their vehicle away, crashed it and was arrested for DWI herself, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Boscobel police notified the Grant County Sheriff's Office of a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole on Wisconsin Avenue in Boscobel, Sheriff Nate Dreckman said in a statement.

The Boscobel officer said he was processing an DWI arrest and that he believed the driver who had crashed into the pole had been the passenger of the person he was arresting for OWI. The passenger was supposed to be waiting for a sober driver to arrive, Dreckman said.

The Sheriff's Office assisted with the crash and determined that the driver, Sara Stowell, 40, of Wauzeka, was driving the 2015 Ford Edge after the DWI arrest of her husband and drove it over the curb and into the pole, Dreckman said.

Stowell, who said she was not injured, was arrested for a first offense of DWI, Dreckman said.

The Edge was towed away due to disabling damage to the front passenger side, Dreckman said.
