A bathroom convo turned violent at MBTA’s Back Bay station on Sunday, as a 42-year-old Malden man allegedly stabbed a victim over refusing to flush a toilet.

Hector Avededo was arrested after he stabbed a 33-year-old Boston man in the hand “because he refused to flush a toilet,” according to MBTA Transit Police.

Officers responded to the station for a reported assault at around 8 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers met the victim who told them he was stabbed following the bathroom altercation.

Avededo entered the bathroom while the victim was inside a bathroom stall, the victim told police.

“Shortly thereafter Avededo informed the victim while still seated in the stall he (the victim) needed to flush the toilet,” Transit Police said in a statement. “The victim responded by telling Avededo he should mind his business when it comes to his personal bathroom habits. The two further exchanged contentious words.”

Then the victim left the bathroom and encountered Avededo. That’s when the altercation turned physical.

“Avededo ultimately stabbed the victim and fled the station,” Transit Police said. “Determined and dedicated TPD officers conducted an area search and located Avededo on Huntington Avenue and engaged him in a foot pursuit.”

Officers apprehended Avededo, he was positively identified, and placed into custody. He was transported to Transit Police headquarters for the arrest booking process. Police recovered a knife from him.

Boston EMS transported the victim to a local area hospital for treatment.
