The New York Police Department confirmed that a shooting took place at a Brooklyn subway station Tuesday morning during peak commuting hours for employees headed into Manhattan.

An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed to Fox News Digital that a shooting took place at the 36th St. station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, but she did not immediately have information on how many people were wounded and whether a suspect had been taken into custody.

FDNY told Fox News that firefighters responded to a call for smoke in the D-N-R lines at the train station. Upon arrival, units discover multiple people shot and several undetonated devices at the same location. It continues to be an active scene.

A graphic photo circulated Twitter Tuesday morning showing several people lying on the blood soaked floor of the station. One man applied pressure to what appeared to be another man’s leg wound. A red item of clothing was tied around the wound to slow bleeding. A puddle of blood was seen next to a second man grasping his cell phone, as backpacks and purses were strewn across the platform.

The department’s NYPD News Twitter account warned the public to avoid the 36th St. and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn due to an investigation and said emergency vehicles and delays should be expected.

A law enforcement source told Fox News Digital the suspect is described as a Black male, wearing an MTA uniform, a gas mask and "carrying a bookbag." NYPD Counterterrorism units are responding to the scene, while additional units, including police K9s and heavy weaponry, have been deployed to subway stations around New York City, the high-ranking law enforcement source added.

The victims were transported to area hospitals, including NYU Langone and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist. The Department of Education confirmed that schools nearby were sheltering in place.

Another unverified video shared on social media appeared to be recorded by someone riding a train into the station. Crowds rushed out once the doors opened, and smoke is seen billowing through the station.

NYPD News initially warned the public to avoid the 36th St. and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn due to an investigation and said emergency vehicles and delays should be expected.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul tweeted that she has been briefed on the developing situation in Brooklyn and will work with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the NYPD to provide updates once they become available. President Biden has also been briefed on the situation in Brooklyn and White House senior staff are in touch with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell to offer any assistance as needed, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

NEW YORK – Frank James, the man the NYPD identified as a person of interest in connection with the Brooklyn subway attack Tuesday morning, posted a string of antagonistic video rants to a YouTube channel for years.

Using titles like "DOMESTICATED AVERAGES" and "SENSIBLE VIOLENCE," James posted hour-long, profanity-laced rants about race, politics and current events. The banner image showed an alarm clock reading "Too Late."

"When you talk to folks [about] what happens to you in prison, it is what it is," he said in the "DOMESTICATED" video. "That’s why I’m never going to prison… I’m not connected, I don’t have nobody, [and] nobody has my m---------ing back."

If he did end up in prison, he predicted, that would be "a wrap."

When police announced James as a person of interest in the subway attack, they shared a still image that appears to have been taken from a video he posted three weeks ago entitled, "STOP ONE COMPLETE."

At times, he sharply criticized Black Europeans and Americans using strings of slurs and racism, as well as women and the homeless. He joked about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and questioned the existence of civil rights.

He also shared local news reports and movie clips and used them as jumping-off points for his rants. A March 1 video began with a PIX 11 report about rising violence in New York City’s subways. In it, he went on to criticize Mayor Eric Adams, women, social workers and homeless people.

"I wanted to kill everything in sight," he says about 12 minutes into the video. "I was planning to kill everything I saw."

In another video, he posted ominous footage of a crowded subway car, which appears to have been taken before coronavirus lockdowns required face masks and dramatically lowered ridership. The title is "THE GOOD OLE DAYS."

He also chronicled an apparent road trip from the Midwest to Philadelphia, where he said he was dropping off items in a storage unit. The videos go back for more than three years but had relatively few views before the subway shooting brought attention to his social accounts. They began as clips taken from elsewhere and reposed to his account to others featuring his own narrations.

James has been linked to addresses in Wisconsin and Philly and lists his hometown as the Bronx on social media.

Police labeled James a person of interest in connection with the attack at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park Tuesday morning.

An assailant in a bright nylon safety vest and gas mask opened a smoke canister and fired off at least 33 rounds from a 9 mm Glock handgun as the Manhattan-bound N train pulled into the station around 8:25 a.m., police said. They recovered the weapon and other items believed to have been abandoned by the suspect in the car.

Almost 30 people were treated for injuries – with at least 10 suffering from gunshot wounds. Others had symptoms of smoke inhalation or other ailments sustained at the frantic scene. Authorities said no one was killed.

Police also linked James’ credit card, which they said they found at the subway crime scene, to a U-Haul van found parked on Kings Highway later in the day. Police closed several surrounding blocks and called in the bomb squad, hazmat teams and federal authorities to investigate.

Nearby residents said police told them to evacuate until the area was deemed safe.

Police stopped short of naming a suspect but announced a $50,000 reward for information in the case.

"We are looking to determine if he has any connection to the attack," NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said of James during an evening news conference.

Anyone with information is asked to call New York City Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Social media posts from a person of interest in connection to a mass shooting attack on New York City’s subway on Tuesday showed leftist, racist, anti-Trump views, according to reports.

“Police identified Frank R. James, 62, of Philadelphia as a person of interest in the case,” CBS News reported. “They say James rented a U-Haul van that might be connected to the shooting.”

Videos from the attack on the subway showed that the air was filled with smoke from smoke bombs that had been detonated. The suspect fired dozens of rounds during the attack, hitting at least 10 people. Another 19 people were injured in the chaos that ensued from the attack.

Heavy.com, a fact-finding website, identified a Facebook page allegedly belonging to the person of interest which contained numerous posts that talked about shooting people and expressed other extreme views, including “black nationalism.”

Andy Ngo, Editor-at-large for The Post Millennial, tweeted out screenshots from the Facebook account that showed posts that promoted the Black Liberation Army, Black Lives Matter, a photo of the man who murdered five police officers in Dallas in 2016, a photo calling to “kill all the whiteys,” posts quoting communist Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, posts expressing support for shooting people, and posts demonizing former President Donald Trump.

YouTube videos allegedly uploaded by the person of interest also showed extreme views, including one where he allegedly called 9/11 “the most beautiful day, probably in the history of this fucking world.”

The person of interest also allegedly ranted in the videos about white people, saying “the vast majority of people, white mother******* are racist.”

The Daily Wire normally withholds the names and faces of suspects in mass shooting attacks and other terrorist attacks due to company policy. However, The Daily Wire does publish names and faces of persons of interest and suspects who are at-large in an effort to assist law enforcement in locating the suspect.
