A teacher has been arrested after she allegedly “engaged in numerous acts of a sexual nature with minors” before posting graphic photos of the incidents online.
Anessa Paige Gower faces 29 separate criminal charges over the alleged abuse of students when she was working as a biology teacher for Making Waves Academy in Richmond, California.
The identities and ages of the seven alleged victims have not been released, but the academy’s pupils range in age from five to 12.
A statement from the Costa District Attorney’s Office said that investigators had interviewed victims and witnesses “about a number of incidents involving sex acts with minors, inappropriate touching, and sharing sexually graphic photos over online platforms”.

Alton B. Nelson Jr., the school’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement that Gower had been sacked after the allegations came to light.
“During the course of an investigation into allegations that one of our teachers violated school policy, we learned of additional highly concerning allegations involving that teacher’s conduct,” he said in a statement.
“We immediately shared that information with authorities who are reviewing the matter. That teacher is no longer employed by Making Waves Academy and we have reached out to parents, students and faculty to provide support where it might be needed.
“There is nothing more important than the health, safety and well-being of our students,” he added
Gower, 35, had been on holiday in Hawaii when the arrest warrant was issued, and she was taken into custody at Sacramento International Airport on Wednesday.
She is currently being held on $2 million bond. As yet she has not entered an official response to the charges against her, which include statutory rape, lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, sending harmful matter to seduce a child, and more than two dozen counts of child molestation.
Gower is not the first teacher at Making Waves Academy to have been accused of molesting students.
Ronald David Guinto was sentenced to 931 years in jail after being convicted of molesting 15 boys in 2017. On that occasion, the victims received a settlement of some $11million from the school.
“If you hurt children, you’ve got to pay,” Charles Bonner, a civil attorney for the boys who handled the lawsuit, said at the time “These vulnerable children can’t defend themselves. Making Waves failed to protect them.”
