Wanted man escapes psych unit in Bend; police say he 'should be considered dangerous'

BEND, Ore. - A patient facing criminal charges in Oregon and California escaped from the psychiatric unit at St. Charles Medical Center Monday morning.

Jeremy Allbritton, 41, was last seen around 8:45 a.m. on NE Courtney Drive in Bend.

"At that time he had taken off his reddish-pink hospital scrub short-sleeved top but was still wearing his green hospital scrub bottoms," according to Bend Police. "He was not wearing any shoes."

Police said Allbritton faces arrest warrants - and is wanted for new crimes.

"He has recently assaulted hospital staff and should be considered dangerous," according to police. "He was not armed at the time he left the hospital."

Authorities described Allbritton as 6-feet tall and 220 pounds with very short or shaved brown hair and numerous tattoos.

Bend Police ask the public to report any sightings or interactions with Allbritton.

"Please do not approach Allbritton, but call 9-1-1 to report his whereabouts," according to police. "If you have already had contact with Allbritton today (Monday, June 20, 2022) please contact non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911 so we can obtain further information from you."

Oregon psych patient assaults hospital staff, briefly escapes before being jailed

An Oregon psychiatric patient wanted for multiple crimes in two states escaped the hospital Monday morning after assaulting medical staff only to return to the psychiatric unit that night and land himself in jail.

Jeremy Allbritton, who has warrants out for his arrest in both Oregon and California, allegedly assaulted staffers at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend and escaped the psychiatric unit at about 8:30 a.m., according to local police.

The Bend Police Department issued a public alert that Allbritton, 41, broke out of the unit and should be considered dangerous Monday morning.

Police told the public the escaped patient was last seen wearing green hospital scrub bottoms with no shoes and no shirt and asked anyone who spotted him to report his whereabouts to authorities.

They cautioned the public to not approach the 6-foot-tall, 220-pound man who they said was not believed to be armed.

Allbritton returned to the St. Charles Medical Center on his own accord at about 11:20 p.m., Bend police said.

Medical staff alerted the department and Bend police officers, along with Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies, arrested the man roughly 10 minutes later.

He was booked at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of coercion, menacing, fourth-degree assault and harassment — as well as on two outstanding Oregon warrants, a California warrant and a violation of his release agreement.
