PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. — An Oklahoma man was arrested for killing a fellow noodler in Pontotoc County, claiming the killing was related to a ‘Bigfoot’ summoning.
According to the Oklahoma Statue Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), Larry Sanders and Jimmy Knighten were noodling in the South Canadian River on July 9 when a fight broke out between them. Sanders reportedly hit and strangled Knighten.
“He [Sanders] appeared to be under the influence of something,” said Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian. “His statement was that Mr. Knighten had summoned ‘Bigfoot’ to come and kill him; that’s why he had to kill Mr. Knighten.”
Sanders was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant and booked into the Pontotoc County Jail.
On July 10, authorities found Knighten’s body and charged Sanders with Murder in the First Degree.
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of Knighten’s death.
