LOGAN — A California man has been charged with exposing himself and leaving pornographic images on students' cars at Utah State University.

Anderson Bectemba Barnes, 44, is charged in 1st District Court with two counts of lewdness with prior offense, two counts of distributing pornography and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, third-degree felonies; lewdness, a class B misdemeanor; and giving a false identity to police, a class C misdemeanor.

The first incident occurred on June 17 when a USU student reported a man, later identified as Barnes, watching her as she removed a note taped to her car, according to a police booking affidavit. Police say the paper contained pornographic images and sexual messages.

Police reviewed campus security footage and saw a man entering USU property at about 10 a.m. on June 17. He's seen walking up some stairs before he dropped his pants, exposing himself, the affidavit states.

The second incident occurred June 25 when a different USU student reported seeing a man at a bus stop and exposing himself, though she said she wasn't certain because she was driving by, according to the affidavit. Police again reviewed campus security footage and reported seeing the man taking off his pants and putting on some underwear.

On June 26, the same student reported seeing the same man exposing himself as she walked into a campus building, the affidavit states. When she returned, she found a note taped to her car that included pornographic images and text with sexual references.

When police reviewed campus security footage, they reported seeing a man taping the note to the student's car and then said he appeared to defecate under a tree.

On July 3, Barnes was located on campus at a bus stop after police said they identified him as a man matching the description of the man in the surveillance videos. Inside a plastic bag, police found about 10 folded papers with the same pornographic images and text contained in the notes left on students' cars, according to the police affidavit.

Police later found a backpack near the bus stop with 131 folded papers with the same pornographic images, as well as a 9mm handgun, the court documents allege.

Barnes is currently being held without bail. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on July 18.
