After making both Robin and Superman bisexual and having the Joker get pregnant, DC Comics plans to introduce a new character on February 14 to coincide with Valentine's Day. Named Circuit Breaker, the character a trans-identified female using he/they pronouns created by artist A.L. Kaplan and edited by Andrea Shea, both of whom are radical trans activists who vocally advocate for the medicalized gender transitioning of children.

On January 9, Kaplan announced the character via Twitter and wrote, "Meet Jules Jourdain (he/they, aka Circuit Breaker," and Shea retweeted and wrote, "CIRCUIT BREAKER is gonna be your new favorite character! @alkcomics breathes life into Jules Jourdain's first adventure this February, in which our new hero is blessed (or cursed?) with the dreaded Still Force during LAZARUS PLANET: DARK FATE. Don't miss his debut 2/14!"

Shea later adds, "jules is the prettiest and most fabulous cowboy" and subtweets a meme Kaplan posted describing this new character with the phrase "I am going to create an boy that is so pretty."

According to Bleeding Cool, Circuit Breaker will be joined by another new Trans/Non-Binary character named Xanathe set to appear in February.

Both Kaplan and Shea have advocated for the medicalzed gender transition of children, or child sex changes. These life-altering procedures have come under scrutiny as many in the health industry have lowered the standards for hormonal treatments and puberty blockers, while detransitioners and parents have cautioned against the move. The notion that children can give adequate consent to the changes that come with these procedures has been debunked, despite a trend of mental health professionals across the United States, Canada, and the UK saying the opposite.

In 2020 Kaplan tweeted, "All my trans and gnc readers, esp but not only the younger ones (there's no timeline for understanding yerself): you're beautiful. Be strong. Keep fighting. And: not knowing is okay. Changing is okay. Trans rights are human rights; normalize de-transitioning ilu all"

In 2022, Shea tweeted about a law in Alabama aimed at protecting children from sex change operations and medications and wrote, "Alabama is, of course, not the only place waging a virulent war on trans children. But all of this in one f*cking day a hell of a nightmarish blitz. I'm not really a 'no one is talking about this' kind of girl but this is an 'everyone NEEDS to be talking about this' situation.

Shea had previously commented on laws aimed at protecting children in 2021 and wrote, "All of this is extremely bad and terrifying but 'criminal/felony ban on healthcare for trans kids' is some truly, deeply evil sh*t."

Shea has also attacked gender critical feminists on Twitter.

Shea has also targeted conservatives for advocating bathrooms that align with biological sex.

Similar to the Disney's "not-at-all secret gay agenda" Shea said on January 18 that she is thankful DC leadership has made their comic books "and so very, very gay."

Kaplan, whose website bio notes the artist has a "a degree in psychology from UCSC and a focus on telling queer narratives in sci-fi/horror settings," identified as a "bi trans dude" in 2019 wrote in 2018 was an independent artist before working at DC who created a comic in 2018 "about queer teenagers in contact with fourth-dimensional aliens."

According to BoundingIntoComics, Circuit Breaker has powers that are the opposite of the Flash and instead of using the Speed Force, the character taps into the Still Force.
