A 15-year-old boy was jumped and beaten by six teenagers while playing basketball in Havertown, Pennsylvania, Monday as a group of bystanders stood by and recorded the assault before posting it on social media.

Police said the group of black teenagers attacked the 15-year-old, who is white, to steal his Yeezy slides, a shoe made by Kanye West and Adidas that can cost up to $300. The video, recorded by bystanders and eventually posted to social media, led to the arrest of one suspect who was in possession of the shoes, and police are still looking for the other five teens who took part in the beating, ABC 6 reported.

“They are punching, kicking, and beating on this kid when he’s laying on the ground,” said Haverford Township Police Deputy Chief Joseph Hagan.

In the video, the victim can be heard pleading with his attackers to “just take” the shoes, but the group of teens continued to chase him after he got off the ground. The victim eventually got away from the group of attackers and ran to a person’s home nearby. That person immediately contacted authorities, unlike the bystanders who were “not calling 911, not trying to help the kid on the ground,” according to Hagan.

“One of the kids filming it apparently put it up on social media and we were able to get that video off of social media,” Hagan said.

“It’s kind of disturbing that these other individuals were standing around, just filming it, this poor kid on the ground,” he added.

The suspects range in age from 14 to 17 years old and are facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and other offenses. Hagan said police have identified two attackers and are “confident” they will be able to identify the rest soon.

The 15-year-old boy attacked by the teens is doing well physically, but his mother was too shaken up to appear on camera for an interview, according to ABC 6. She told the outlet that she is pleased police are investigating the attack and was saddened that bystanders would record the attack instead of calling the police.

A similar attack took place in Pennsylvania nearly 10 years ago to the day when a white 15-year-old was beaten by a group of black teenagers while playing basketball at a Pittsburgh recreation center. The attackers allegedly beat the teenager for his basketball shoes and to record the assault to post online.
