What is everyone's favorite sports film? There are definitely some very good ones out there (along with some bad ones).

Off the top of my head (and in no particular order), I think my top 5 are:

Hoosiers
We Are Marshall
Field of Dreams
For Love of the Game
The Longest Yard (original)

I got a soft spot for Tin Cup..

Also liked The Natural, Bull Durham and The Mean Machine (uk) just for the scenes o Jason Statham in goal! :)

If I had to put a golf movie on my list, it would be The Greatest Game Ever Played

As for the Longest Yard remake (Mean Machine in the UK), it was better than I was expecting, but it still didn't measure up to the original IMHO.

Hoosiers is a beautiful, old fashioned masterpiece, with breathtaking music and cinematography, as well as perhaps the finest performance of Dennis Hopper's career. On top of that, it is based on a true story and has every element a sports film should have. One of my favorites. Might have to dig out the DVD tonight.

Just so you know, a Hoosier is a nickname for a person from the state of Indiana, where the film is set.

Oh, one of the actors in the movie was playing basketball in college at the time...and the NCAA actually suspended and fined him for doing the film!

I was going to say that one, but I thought all you soccer (football) guys wouldn't like it because it was a little cheesy?

I'll never forget seeing it at a Saturday matinee, I always remembered the scene where they break the goalies arm so Sly can become the new goalie.

Really? :-s

I don't think it is at all....you want a chick flick masquerading as a sports movie just look no further than Jerry Maguire.

Major League is my all time fav sports movie. I watch it every spring training. I also really like A League of Their Own, Tom Hanks's character cracked me up in that one.
